Hello,
I'm looking for a small country town within commuting distance of Nashville, TN. I'm looking for somewhere that is not too expensive to live for a first time moving.

To help you narrow down your search, we need to know what kind of work you do, and whether you plan to rent or buy a house.

Do you have kids who will be in school?

Recreation? What kinds of things do you like to do when you aren't working?

How much is hour housing budget?

^^ What Wmsn said... But also, What is an acceptable commute time for you? Do you want to stay in Davidson County (Nashville) or is one of the surrounding counties (with more rural areas) okay?

There are probably a lot of good areas for you but these questions will help us steer you in the right area...

There are a number of places that would qualify...but if you are looking for an area that isn't in as much danger of mass development, I would start my search in Robertson and Cheatham Counties. Dickson County is also a good possibility. A darkhorse candidate would be Joelton, a small rural-ish community in northwest Davidson County, which would have a fairly easy commute to most of the metro.

You might also find something you like in the other surrounding counties (Sumner, Wilson, Williamson, and to an extent, Rutherford), but development encroachment could be an issue (and rapidly rising property values -- which could be good if you consider this to be an investment). Further out, Maury, Macon, Hickman, Smith, Trousdale, and Cannon Counties are a possibility...but then your commute is looking to be north of 50-60 miles, and 1 hour+ in commute time.

Tell us a little bit more about what you are looking for in your desired town and property and we can help you narrow down your options.

I plan to work in Nashville at a recording studio. I graduate in 2 years and I'll have a Music Technology an Recording.
I plan on buying a house but I will probably have to start out renting a place or apartment.
I do not have any kids.
I love being outdoors and I don't really have budget right now I just don't want it to be too expensive.

I would prefer to have a commute time of around a half hour or less but I'll go up to about 45 minutes.
Surrounding counties are okay as well.

I'm from the country of a small town so I prefer the quiet away from everything feeling. My boyfriend would like to buy a place with property where he can set up a garage to work on cars and I would eventually like to own a horse. I don't mind the city since I currently live in Indianapolis but I prefer the small town where everybody's familiar.

You could look at Pegram, which is off Highway 100, so not so far from town.Welcome: Town of Pegram, Tennessee
There are houses under $200,000 with land. Google Pegram and you will find listings which I don;t think I could post here.
