Hope that someone may have some information...

I had an inspection done on a property. I called a roofing company to have an inspection done also on the roof. They apparently did the inspection without myself or the realtor meeting them there, on the property. I had no idea that they did the inspection. A few months later I get a call saying the inspection was complete and where should they send the bill. I said that I didn't know they had done the inspection.

I refused the house deal. The roofing company is now pursuing me to get paid for the inspection that they did. Am I bound to pay them? Is the fact that I called for an inspection enough to force me to pay?

Thanks in advance...
Skim

Hmmm . . .

When I was looking at a house, the home inspector also looked at the roof for me. And yes, I paid him and would pay him whether or not I bought the house.

Seems odd that the roofing company would inspect and then not send you the results or call you with them?

Also, when I was having my roof done, after I bought the house, I had 3 estimates and did not pay for any of them.

Sounds a little suspicious to me . . . .

Did you Google the company for reviews? How much do they want for this?

Also, since this may not be Nashville specific, it may get moved to another forum . .

Good luck!

If you called to schedule an inspection but they never got back to you with a time (or even a date), as far as you knew, no work was ever done.

Whether you bought the house or not is irrelevant. The point is you had no reason to believe they ever showed up, so the bill (months later??) came as a total surprise.

Sloppy way to conduct business, for sure. Whether you are responsible or not seems questionable, since you state you called them and ordered the inspection.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for the feedback y'all. Yes, this is a company in Nashville. They did not get back to me with a time or date either. Probably scrambled and did it, hoping to get the money later. My realtor told me there were a lot of scams in the area of companies acting in nutty ways like this, trying to force people to pay them for work they didn't order. So, maybe that's part of this. I've hired an attorney in any case.
