Default Is Nashville Safe enough to have fun?

I am thinking of moving to Nashville and just want to know about the safety of the city...I have looked at some stats and see that the homicide rate is high...Is that just one section of the town or what....I am still young, only 22, so would like to have fun and not worry about looking over my back every second....I am living in Tampa,FL right now, city with lots to do...All the sports and nightlife to imagine...How is Nashville for having fun, shopping, sports, and recreation...Thanks!

Yes, it is safe enough to have fun...certainly safer than Tampa. You just need to know typical unsafe area. One of them is Nolensville road, Metro Center Blvd and East part of the town. However, nightlife in downtown area is pretty safe. I have been in Tampa may times in the past. If you are beach lover and the one who likes to see hot girls walking in biknis then you might have some hard time getting used to Nashville lifestyle. Simply because there isn't any beach here. I would live in Tampa compare to Nashville if I have family, friends and job in florida area though.

I am in Nashville, alone, at night, for music industry functions on a regular basis. I have never felt afraid for my safety.

Just use your head- park in lighted areas, lock your doors, etc.

You'll be fine.

There was a placed called Club Mystic downtown on 2nd ave. that was dangerous. There were several gang-related shootings/stabbings/fights, but that place has been closed down and I haven't heard of any incidents lately (other than just drunken fighting). I'm 25 and live downtown. If you move here, you might find, as I have, that there are betters clubs and bars outside of the downtown area. The ones downtown are a bit too touristy for my taste.

In answer to your questions: Yes, you can definitely have fun, the shopping sucks, the sports are great and general recreation is nothing special.

10 million visitors can't be all wrong. Sure, there's places you wouldn't want to go. If it looks like someplace you shouldn't be, then you shouldn't be there. Otherwise, come on, have a good time, use common sense like you would in Tampa and the subject should be moot. I've lived here most of my 54 years and I'm still having fun...and no scars to show for it. Enjoy.

I saw in the Tennessean today that the Guardian Angels are now patrolling areas in Nashville.

Default safety

Don't move to antioch! When I moved there, it looked gorgeous...
beautiful plush tree's, wonderful houses. We bought a house there.
Low and behold that week walgreens was robbed and the girl was stuffed
in a trash bin. Thank goodness she was alive and someone got her out.
Then, someone in a parking lot shot and killed a little girl in the parking lot.
(she was holding a quarter) that is what they took.
I don't want to scare you, but....the last straw for me, is when 9 houses
down a 70 year old woman was raped! and to top it off, a friend of mine
was held at gunpoint at an apartment complex and was told to get into
the car! Thank God above, her neighbor heard the noise and rescued
her- he was a police officer and got into a shoot out. I moved.
It is bizzare, because it is SOOO beautiful- but, horrible. I
lived there for 5 years, and then moved to Brentwood.
Didn't have any problems in Brentwood, except neighbors cars got broken into.
Also, there was a shoot out of of maryland way 6 years ago.
Soooo, needless to say- yes. There is crime. The stats say, high crime
and the police officers say that Rape is one of the highest amongst other
states.
Nashville, and surrounding areas are beautiful. It is just so sad, that
crime has to take over each city. (not just nashville, it's everywhere)
I think the safest area would be franklin. look into that-

don't want to scare you, just lived there 17 years and know
always be aware.

Blessings, Tina

I used to live in Orlando and we went to Tampa a lot for concerts, going to The Castle in Ybor, etc. Comparing that to Nashville nightlife, I think you'll be very bored. If you like to see a lot of the more non-mainstream bands that come to the Tampa/Orlando area (we like to see Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Thrill Kill Kult, KMFDM, etc. and saw them at the Masquerade and House of Blues), you'll be disappointed in that area, too.

i second this. I used to have to drive for hours to Atlanta (as well as other states) to see any bands that I was interested in, because people don't show up for shows in Nashville, so bands never come back.

now I live in Chicago and that should tell you everything. hah.
