Hey, everyone. Newb here. My wife and I are considering a move to Nashville from Chicago due to a recent job offer. We're preparing for the culture shock, but one thing we totally didn't expect was the lack of natural gas stovetops in Nashville. At least, it's a commonality in all the apartments we've been looking at. We love to cook, and we really like the way you can turn a natural gas stove off at a given moment. We plan to rent, but does anyone know where we could find an apartment with a stove that isn't electric?

Kind of a random request, I know. If it isn't possible, it's not the end of the world, just wondering if there's some secret stash of them hiding somewhere.

I can see electric being common in apartments. Natural gas is pretty common in a lot of homes, though.

I would look at newer complexes. I don't know what your price range is, but I would imagine the more upscale/modern apartments (or rental condos) would be a better place to look.

Out of curiosity, where are you looking?

Good luck in finding gas. My relo gal said it's extremely rare and my brand new apt is electric. Haven't cooked on that in over 20 years and I hate it.

I still detest my glass cooktop here. Just isn't the same as a flame. I'm not sure we saw a gas stove when we were house hunting. At some point, we will order one and hook it up to gas.

All the homes we looked at had gas. We didn't rent though. Is it a price point thing?

I remember a friend living in Brentwood Oaks having a gas range. I think it is just dependent on the complex and nearby infrastructure (which means price point).

It may be. You are probably in a higher league than we are, septimus!

We had a gas clothes dryer when we moved - and we had to hook up gas to it. We were told that the stores here sell electric dryers and if you want a gas one it has to be special ordered. I haven't confirmed that by actually checking in stores, though.

Thanks, everyone. In Chicago, we're paying $900/mo for a 1BR apt. We'd probably be looking for something similarly priced or lower (though we were thinking of moving to Green Hills or Hillsboro, which would prob be at least that expensive, from my limited research thus far). I'll look into the Brentwood complex.

It's funny how there can be these little things that you totally take for granted but would alter your life in a weird way if they changed!
