HI all, if one was considering opening a business in downtown Franklin where would you start? I'm from MN and I've grown tired of MN weather/winters and I love the unique quaintness of downtown Franklin. I am not ready to disclose the type of business it would be but I will say its products that I make myself. So I would prefer a space that has room for the retail area but also my 'workspace' in the back where I can make my products. What is retail rental costs in this area? Is it hard to get 'into' this area with a new business? How is the state of TN for starting up businesses? Lots of requirements etc?? Any info you can give is always appreciated. Thank you!

I would start here:

Downtown Franklin Tennessee

And I would guess that it would expensive to rent a storefront in downtown Franklin. Prime real estate. The only suggestion I would have is to try to get into the Shoppes on Main. Each person has a little space where they sell their own stuff. Cheaper than having your own entire shop. Not sure how hard it is to get in to but you can contact them and check? Good luck to you!

Another spot that sounds like it may fit your needs (albeit I have no idea costs because I'm not looking for retail space!) but the Factory has several shops that have retail space in the front and workshop space behind a divider or even a solid wall.

The Factory is a great idea, too . . and I think it's going to start to take off a bit more when more shops go in under the condos across the street. AND there's always the Farmers Market just to start!
