Looking for best area to live in Nashville (Franklin, Brentwood: apartment complexes, rental) - City-Data Forum

My son's job will soon be taking him to Franklin, TN for only a year and he is looking for the best apartments and areas to live. He is young (24), single and hesitant to settle in Franklin as he heard it is quite rural and "quiet." He was thinking of looking in downtown Nashville or close by wondering if there are decent apartments. Again, he would also be looking for more music entertainment and activities for someone his age.

Franklin isn't really that rural . . . unless he's coming from someplace like LA or NYC, then it might seem like it is.

Sounds like he would like the Midtown/Hillsboro Village/21st Avenue area. It would be a little bit of a commute to Franklin but not that bad. That's also the university area (Vanderbilt and Belmont), so there's stuff that young 20-year olds like around that area.

Thanks so much alleycat for the suggestions! Trying to find an apartment in the Nashville area can be overwhelming; there is so much to choose from. One more question, is highway 65 usually congested with traffic? I was thinking the commute to Franklin may be difficult if there are constant traffic jams.

I-65 coming north into Nashville in the morning, or going south in the afternoon is very congested during rush hour. It would be a little easier going from Nashville to Franklin in the morning.

He could also at least consider Green Hills; there's a bit of a mixtures of ages and singles/marrieds there.

Take a look at The Grove (both Elimington and Whitworth). They are perfect places to live for a young professional in the Hillsboro/Vandy area. The only downside, possibly, is that many Vandy students live there (so, it could be a little louder than other complexes). Good luck.

I work in Franklin and live in Green Hills (440 and Hillsboro)...I would recommend this general area...takes me about 10-15 minutes to get to work in the morning-no congestion at all unless there is a wreck, which is rare. Really depends on how much he wants to spend and if he wants a place to himself or not...let us know and we can probably give better recommendations based on these two criteria.

My nephew just got his own apt. in Cool Springs (where Brentwood and Franklin meet.). It's Alara. He's 21 and loves the area. His 1 bdrm is $800/month.

East Nashville doesn't have any apartment complexes, but there are tons of great rental houses, and a ton of young singles. The area is the same as Green Hills/Hillsboro/Belmont, but not nearly as expensive and younger. Also, its much closer to downtown, the traffic is far better (Greenhills is a nightmare), has easy access to the highway, and has lots of nightlife and dining often within walking distance. He might even consider purchasing in the area as property values are among the fastest increasing in middle TN. He could easily make 5 - 10% in the year he's here.

east nashville is farther from franklin than every other area, has WAY more crime and is still pocked with crack houses! why on earth would you send anyone there? i live in green hills and it's MOSTLY, but not entirely, married couples with kids with some older couples whose children have already left. 12south/belmont/hillsboro village are better areas and closer to where he'll work. there are projects near there though, so you have to be careful about where exactly as the areas right around the projects are not nice.

there is no traffic going SOUTH to franklin in the morning and there's no traffic coming north in the evening. i made it from gree hills near hillsboro and harding this afternoon all the way to cool springs in less than 20 minutes and the place i went was not right off the interstate. people from nashville complain about the traffic, but that's because they've never been anywhere with bad traffic!!! it's worse than it used to be, but it's not bad.
