It's terrifying that you have children.

No, somebody's just a fan of the movie Tommy Boy.

Sorry to just now get back on and I haven't read everything else, but wanted to answer the OP. We have only lived in Franklin for a year, but have lived in Middle TN for 10 years, since college. We absolutely love it here! I think you and your family would fit in great. PM me if you want to ask any questions.

Being openly liberal in many areas of Tennessee (Williamson County being one of the most notable among them) is asking for serious trouble.

You'll love it here.

Not sure how we've avoided "serious trouble" all these years. Just lucky, I guess!

Being reasonably close to Nashville does help.

You named my county specifically, but now say my proximity to Nashville helps?

At any rate, to the OP- of course TN leans to the right. It's more pronounced in some areas than others. The schools reflect this to a point, but efforts are made to respect individual beliefs. As with any school, it's what you make it. Parent involvement is high. If that's an option for you, consider volunteering to get a better feel for the political atmosphere (or lack thereof).

Good luck! Finding a school you and your children love is a gift.

Williamson County is close to the more liberal Nashville, but it has also been noted by several sources as one of the most conservative counties in America. There was an article I was reading a while back which interviewed several locals, a lot of whom did not "feel welcome" due to their political beliefs.

However, I have (personally) noticed that proximity to Nashville works to tone down political arguments between residents, ex. the passive-aggressiveness and keying the car of someone with the wrong bumper sticker you might see in the Metro area, as opposed to verbal arguments and getting into fistfights like you might notice the further out you go into the sticks.

Me either.

It would be better to offer actual personal experience than random anecdotes.
