Default Take me through your typical day in Tennessee

Okay so I live Nashville - off granny White, or somewhere in Franklin or maybe Hillsboro Village,West Meade - even Eastside! Oe Maybe on the lake in Hendersonville, or up in the trees of Kingston SPrings. Murfreesboro. Lebanon. Mt Juliet.

Take me thru your day. Your plans. Activities. What you did on the weekend. Anything funny that you saw. A piece of news you thought interesting. Something that really upset you, Something that you really liked. Observations that define the Tennessee culture /experience...thanks!

Okay, I'll bite. I live off Granny White Pike near Radnor Lake. I got up at six this morning and made coffee for my wife and I. We had a couple of cups of coffee, talked about our children, our grandchildren, and world events. We took our dogs for a walk at Radnor Lake about 7:30am and talked more about things that interest us. About 8:30 my wife took the dogs home and I backpacked six miles of trails for about two hours. I saw about twenty deer, of which half of them were eating within ten feet of me. I came within six feet of a ten point buck and just came to a stop. We must have stared at each other for a full minute. I saw two owls. One of them was in flight and had a wing span of at least six feet. I went home and showered and my wife and I took a motorcycle ride for a couple of hours down the Natchez Trace parkway. We saw wild turkeys, deer and beautiful scenery. We got home about 2pm and I went to the grocery store to pick up some things for grilling out tonight. When I got back I joined my wife on the back porch and read for about forty-five minutes. I came inside to watch the Bama-LSU game and respond to emails(kids, grandchildren, and some business). I've been sipping some wine for the past hour and started the grill about thirty minutes ago. We're going to have some great burgers in about forty five minutes. After the burgers my wife and I will probably relax, read, and talk.
Sunday morning my wife and I will take the dogs for a walk and I'll hike for about an hour and a half at Radnor Lake after we finish with the walk. We'll go to church together and have brunch after. We'll then go home and I'll watch the remainder of the Titans game. I'll probably spend some time outside after the game playing with the dogs and maybe reading. I'll probably watch the last half of the Colts-Patriots game if it is interesting. Sunday evening I will probably spend time getting ready for the next week as far as my business and what I hope to accomplish during the week. My wife and I will also call the children and talk with them and the grandchildren.
I'm sure this may seem rather unexiting to many of you. This is a rather typical weekend for us and we enjoy it. Any of the above items for me can be substituted with lifting weights, photography or taking a ride in the country with my wife. We enjoy the Nashville area. We also take day trips to different areas within easy driving distance(i.e. Shiloh National Battlefield). I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for but this is a bypacal weekend for us.

I live in Cool Springs....work in Brentwood....I worked today and then also hiked at Radnor...it was later in the day...so only saw 3 deer feasting on foliage.
I just had to stop a few times just to take in all the beauty...the trees are turning color..the lake is shiny...and sky is so blue.
On the way home...I got caught in traffic over by the mall...what a mistake to go that way...It's awful. I hear it only will get worse...for the holidays.
I tend to get alittle road rage when I drive into the Green Hills Mall area...I may as well be in California...the streets are crowded and drivers are rude.
Oh..I did go to see the movie American Gangster last night....almost 3 hours! but pretty good true story.

Woke up, drove into Green Hills to go to the ATM, had to wade through a little traffic on Hillsboro...came back to house and hung out here all day...went out to Dan McGuiness for dinner in the Demonbreun area and got hit on for money by TWO *****ing bums...this place is overrun with them, really damn annoying. The cops around here need to get out of their cars and off the laser/radar guns and on the street and kick the bums out of this town, it's WORSE THAN MEMPHIS here!

That was fantastic! What a wonderful window into a little slice of your wonderful life in TN - Radnor Lake must be an idyllic place to live around..I know some folks that live around Percy priest Lake...I visited Smithville last week myself..what kind of dogs by the way?
Wow are you an active grandpa! I am impressed with the amount of physical activity. What is so wonderful about your day to me? NO MALLS! Communing with Nature...so lovely..thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us..

Are you a native TN-ean? If not, where did you come from and what maded you decide on the area you finally settled on? I know you made a very wise real estate choice on that area! Have you lived in other parts of TN?

Also how much has the market slowed? How many days is it taking to sell now versus 2006?

Thanks! The grandkids are so lucky to have you close by!

Thanks for the day in the life of a Tennessean! I agree about the traffic. The price one pays for such a great town. I stayed in Brentwood while house hunting and can attest to the traffic - I t did dictate when I did what to avoid it..realtors told me it wasn't always like that..Brentwood used to be the place that was special when they were kids - Sunday outings included trips there for dinner and such a small wonderful town ..Now you can't even find anyone with a southern accent that lives there..you're right- it's now upscale crowded over developed "anywhere-sville" = a victim of its own success...but the best shopping in all of TN!

thanks for the post! 12b

wow- I rarely get out your way - I have heard about the crime in that area..did not know about the homeless problem...perhaps your state rep could help? Never been to that place for dinner - is it in a fringe area?

No, Dan McGuiness is in a small entertainment district near music row on Demonbreun (with the "naked people" Musica statue). I've been to a lot of major cities and have seriously never experienced being hit on so hard for $ as I have here in Nashville, it's ridiculous. I've been hit on downtown, Demonbreun, and the 12th south area on multiple occassions...they get around. Memphis got a clue and tried to do something about it: http://www.downtownmemphis.com/downtownmemphis/documents/panhandling4.pdf (broken link)

Get a clue Metro! Get out of your cars and onto the streets!

Wow. It's amazing how many of the posters so far mentioned Radnor. Here is my go.

Friday: Left work at five, and got from Donelson to Hillbsboro village in about 15 minutes (no traffic issues as I go against the flow both ways). Played a little xbox, made a little dinner and then went to the Gold Rush in Elliston Place for a few beers to warm up for the Josh Ritter show at Exit In.

Saturday: Woke up and got coffee at Frothy Monkey on my way to Radnor Lake. Enjoyed walking around for a few hours. Went to the house and grabbed lunch, then went to the "Dragon Park" (Fannie Mae Dees Park?) to read for a while. Watched the first half of LSU-Bama and then headed over to the 12 South Taproom to catch the second half and eat some dinner with friends.

Sunday: Drove to Savage Gulf to do a little hiking with a friend and her dog. Came back and grabbed dinner at the Alleycat.

I'm getting a little irratated with the homeless situation as well. The panhandlers are getting a little too agressive. The other day I tried to grab a newspaper out of a machine downtown and almost got jumped by some bums because that's where they were keeping thier beer. I'm also getting a little sick of seeing homeless folks napping in the downtown library.

Here's my day...I live in Brentwood. While eating breakfast I'll sit on the back patio and watch the rabbits and look for my pet deer who makes an appearance less and less these days. I'll make a morning trip to the Maryland Farms YMCA for a workout. Or on some days, instead, I'll go for a run on the Greenways where I can run in and out of the woods and hopefully take a peak at some wildlife. I start at Concord Park. On a weekend, yes, I love going to Radnor Lake too for a great hike and just to enjoy nature. But I also enjoy just driving around in the mini-mountains with the top down on the convertible. I love trying to find that house on the top of the hill that you see miles away. I might take a book, football and a blanket to Percy Warner Park after a drive through the hills in the park, where I too, hear and see owls. Then it's off to dinner somewhere in Nashville either near Downtown, Hillsboro Village, etc. I'll grab the local Scene or Rage and see who's playing and where and either try to make plans to hear some music either that night or some other.

Let's see: empty the dishwasher, load the dishwasher, do some laundry, sort the recyclables, take a walk with the trash bin to the curb, wash the car, clean the litter box, go to Kroger, go to Target, go to work, come back, eat, vacuum, clean the kitchen and bathroom, sit here and read about all the folks who hang out at Radnor and ask myself, "why not me." I need some domestic help. You guys have it made.
