We're planning a 4-day trip to the Nashville area, and would like some recommendations on what to do and visit. I have a 3-year old daughter.

We're also like to check out some cities for a possible relocation move, we work from home, so location for commuting to the city is not an issue. Our main priority is good schools, especially elementary schools.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi RJA -

I've got three daughters! If you come to Rutherford County (Murfreesboro) you would love the Children's Discovery Center! It is a hands on museum/art/discovery center for kids. We are members and my daughters just love to go. They never grow tierd of visiting there.

In Nashville, check out the Children's Museum, the Zoo, and if you have time you might even go to the Children's Theatre. If they have a play running for younger children your daughter will love it. Mine would always be enchanted by watching the actors on stage; they liked this much more than movies.

If you come during Nov/December go to the Opryland/Gaylord Hotel. She (and you!) will be amazed at the lights and decorations in the hotel. You can also buy tickets to the ice sculptures that kids love. They have an ice slide that kids can actually slide down. The hotel is free to view but you have to pay for parking unless you walk over from the Opryland Mall.

As far as relocation, I would look in Williamson, Wilson, and Rutherford Counties. Home prices are going to be more affordable in Wilson and Rutherford Counties. Murfreesboro is in Rutherford County and is an actual city with everything you could possibly need. You would not need to drive into Nashville unless you just wanted to go. Wilson County is more residential so you would be commuting into Nashville more often. All of these counties offer good to great schools. Brentwood City Schools in Williamson County are the best. Average price home in Brentwood for the last six months was around $650,000 so you will pay a lot more for these great schools. Feel free to email me if you need more details or info.

Hope you enjoy your visit!
