Greenbrier
I have over the river and through the woods, and think I've finally found a town that I have chosen to live. We have looked at Hendersonville, Portland, Whitehouse, Pleasantview and Joelton, but think we have found where we want to be in Greenbrier. It's a small little town that's in the midst of growing areas but is still small enough to only have one redlight, one grocery store and still has a country feel. It seems the distance to Nashville isn't that far, but it's close to every where else for shoppinig and entertainment without being all the way in Portland or Pleasantview, but not as swallowed up by overcrowding and commercial districts as Hendersonville and Whitehouse. For twin high school boys, and a middle school daughter they seemed very comfortable with the surroundings. We just want to teach our kids how to be down to earth instead of keeping up with the neighbors. This appears to be that kind of place.
Any opinions?

I just think of Greenbrier as a rural community. It used to be a farming community, but I don't know whether it still is or not. There used to be several "egg farmers" in Greenbrier.

I think if you are looking for a small-town feel in the middle of bigger towns this would probably be a good location. I know several Greenbrier people that are extremely happy in the "everybody knows your name" atmosphere. They do seem very friendly and down to earth. The housing market is growing there with new big houses, they have a new park and two golf courses nearby.
The friends that I have are very pleased with the school. My co-worker is on their PTO and says Greenbrier has the highest testing averages for the county in tests like Gateways, ACTs, and such. I know that her children do well so in high school and college so she is pleased.
Good luck on your search. I hope you find something great.

I finally got back to the site. Thanks for the advice. I moved here and completely love this country life. I had family from my old hometown visit. They were surprised and plan to move here too. We love it!

I guess if you think of White House as being overcrowded (definitely never heard that before), Greenbrier might be a good fit for you. Not a lot going on there, but it's actually pretty convenient to I-65 and even downtown Nashville.

Pimpy, I was just in White House the other day and I think I noticed the congestion at four redlights within just a mile. For a small town, that is not my cup of tea. I can do traffic going to or from Nashville. When I need a gallon of milk I don't want to fight traffic. And we enjoyed our first 4th of July parade here after a night before where most of the town seemed to gather. Neighbors says school sports are big here. We are happy to be here.

I hope you don't think I was insulting you in my last post. I just meant that a very small, rural town like Greenbrier would probably be an ideal fit for someone who thinks a town like White House is too crowded. Different strokes for different folks. I am glad you found a place you are happy to call home.

I live in Greenbrier.
I live on an old egg farm (it was my great grandfather's). The town is beautiful. Greenbrier is small enough that everybody knows everybody. Greenbrier is blossoming into an excellent town.

Greenbrier is small, but it has things going on.
