McGavock High-how is it?
It looks like this school is getting better (graduation rate has increased in the last 5 years), but tonight the news is reporting a shooting there...can anyone give me details about the school (is it really that bad, on a downward trend, or what?). Thinking of moving to an area that is zoned for that school. Thanks!

Of the Metro schools it still gets bad ratings , I would look for John Overton or Hillsboro of the Metro schools to live near. There are also some excellent Magnet schools. McGavok has to many incidents imo.

I checked out some areas that are zoned to John Overton and they are in Antioch...I've heard that area is going down, is the school not soon to follow?...Most properties I've seen zoned to hillsboro are out of my price range. appreciate the tips.

I wouldn't hesitate to live in an area zoned to McGavock. If I were going to live in Nashville, that would actually be one of my preferred areas. I know it's not known for being a great school, but almost any school will have its problems. I've met quite a few bright people that graduated from McGavock.

None in Antioch go to John Overton. They go to Antioch HS and I think some of them may be going to the new HS, Cane Ridge HS.
I don't know what your price range is but you should check Nolensville which has some new subdivisions under $200,000. Also Lenox Village on Nolensville Rd . Some of these are zoned for Williamson County Schools which has a lower tax rate than Davidson county.

Look in the Crieve Hall area and along Old Hickory Blvd. between Franklin Road and Edmondson Pike for some of the nicer properties in the John Overton zone. I graduated from there a little less than a decade ago and it was one of the best public high schools in the city then. I don't think the Overton zone goes into Antioch much if at all but they may have changed the zones some since I graduated.

There are some streets in the newer neighborhoods off Nolensville Road that are zoned for Overton, though the mailing address is Antioch. (Sugar Valley and Barnes Cove). Lenox Village is zoned for Overton. Further down Nolensville Road toward Concord Road there are 2 neighborhoods with Brentwood addresses, but they're still in Davidson County and are zoned for Overton. (Concord Place and Autumn Oaks) With the new Cane Ridge School opening, it's a very zig zagged zone there along Nolensville Road.

Here's a good look I found for looking up Tennessee school demographics in all sorts of categories.

It is the United Nations, I'm serious when I say that. My daughter graduated from there last year. She is at MTSU this year.
