The jazz and blues festival is held on Jefferson street each year.

It definitely has promise. Rentals are more expensive than I thought though.. Wanted an artsy walkable type place sort of like the Cooper-Young/Midtown neighbourhoods in Memphis. Saw a great little house advertised there for 750 bucks close to shopping and restaurants. Nashville seems to have nothing at all in that price range

I am sure you can find places in North and East Nashville that haven't been gentrified for that. With only 750 dollars I am certain that you will end up in the hood in both cities. Good news is Nashville's hoods aren't that bad but I hear Memphis has one of the highest crime rates in the country.

Cooper-Young is actually nice and relatively safe. I've lived in the Bronx,Harlem, Brooklyn, Chicago, Atlanta and Houston and know how to watch my back anywhere I go.As a matter a fact I'm living right now in a country town outside of Houston and don't feel safe at all! Houston downtown is the most unsafe downtown I've ever been in. I've lived in some dangerous expensive places and some cheaper safe places. It just depends.

Nashville is close enough (3 hours or so) to Louisville to be able to live in one and gig in both, if you could make the contacts.

That is a good consideration.

You would also be about 2 1/2 hrs from Chattanooga. Chattanooga is becoming quite the hip little town and you might be able to book a few gigs there.
