Default Looking west of Nashville jobs/housing?

Currently living in Orlando, FL and looking to move west of Nashville towards Paris. Looking for land and house together, preferably 3/2 with 40+ acres that is huntable. Decent town for raising family with 2 young boys. Looking more into the rural setting vs the city, but within 1 1/2 hrs from decent size city. Also looking into arson investigation or forestry type jobs. I have 10+ yrs of experience as a firefighter/paramedic and with fire suppression systems. Any info would help or places to look. Thanks in advance.

Stewart, Houston, or Henry County would all be possibilities (I would probably favor Paris, followed by Dover as far as towns go). Clarksville is about an hour to an hour and a half away. Clarksville is a city of about 125,000 (my hometown).

Employment can be a little more iffy in those counties since they're fairly rural in nature. They might be something in the area with the state or with TVA that would interest you, I just don't know. I suspect it might be hard to get on with any fire departments in the area because in those kinds of small towns a lot depends on who you are and who you know (I'm sure the fire chief of Dover has plenty of distant cousins he could hire . . . and probably does). TVA runs Land Between the Lakes; if I were you I might start there.

There's some really pretty countryside in those areas. And there's good hunting (deer, ducks, turkey) and fishing too since Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkely are "next door". Some of the land is steep and heavily wooded; which makes it a little cheaper than land that can be farmed. If you primarily want the property to hunt on, then you would have an advantage. I would also look for a piece of property that also had a creek nearby.

Only looking for state type jobs in arson or forestry, no more firefighting for me. Land I am looking for would preferably be wooded or fingers of woods running through with home, mainly deer hunting. Do you have any web sites to look at for the like, maybe see something new that I have not googled yet. I will check out TVA. Thanks for the info.

You can take a look at Google Earth or Google Map (Satellite view) to see just how wooded the area is, and how rugged.

By the way, they allow hunting at Land Between the Lake (LBL); I'm not sure whether it gets crowded or not. I have a piece of property in Montgomery County (Clarksville); lots of deer and wild turkeys. I don't do much hunting myself anymore but other people have killed some good sized deer on the place.

I don't have any links that you probably haven't seen; you might Google for LBL or Kentucky Lake. There might have some photos that show what the area looks like.
