I'll be enrolling in Vandy in the Fall in their divinity school. My partner will be joining me and will be teaching high school. She'll be making approximately $40k/year and with my stipend and saved income, I'll be contributing 15-20k/year so about 55k a year for us to live on.

My partner is scooter bound so we've tended to always rent apartments, though we're open to homes as well. We also have three cats so we have to find places that are willing to accept that. I've done some preliminary phone calls and found one complex that is okay with three cats.

While I would love to be within walking distance of Vandy, it just doesn't even seem remotely possible. The rent for a lot of the one bedroom places is headed into the 1.5-2k/range and we're not comfortable taking that kind of a hit to our wallet. Am I just looking at the wrong places?

I've liked what I've heard about Inglewood and E Nashville, but again I worry that they're too far away for me to dive into the social life at the divinity school.

Due to work I won't be able to visit Nashville until July to scope out and find a place for us to live. So I'm trying to do as thorough an internet search as I can to narrow down neighborhoods.

Both of us are in our late 20s and enjoy a fairly casual social scene - we don't do clubs too much, outside of live music. We're both huge beer fans so known bars would be a plus, I see Nashville has a Flying Saucer. I love to go running so having quick access to a greenway, park, or extended sidewalks in a historic neighborhood would be great.

The biggest problem we've encountered with apartments and just housing in general over the last few years is finding places that can accommodate someone with a disability. It's almost always an issue with doorways being too narrow for a wheelchair to fit through (she uses a wheelchair inside the apartment), or once inside the room is too small for her to move around making it impossible for her to use the bathroom (generally the most problematic room).

I'll keep hitting up the threads here for guidance of course.
