I don't hate it or love it. There are a lot of great things about the area, and some real annoyances, too. I've lived in other parts of the country, and felt the same way -- and I doubt if I'm that much different than most people.

Well, I'm flying out tomorrow for the 2nd interview.
Going to look at more homes in Hendersonville. Specifically Island Brook or Drakes Creek (I think those are the subdivisions...)

FWIW, people complain about the traffic a lot in the Nashville area. I just went back to Chicago/Milwaukee for the week for work...it had been awhile since I'd driven this much in Chicago. The traffic in Nashville is heavy but nothing like up there.

Sometimes I get annoyed with Nashville traffic. All it takes is one short trip up to New Jersey and I'm cured!

Not only is the weather lovely in Midde Tennessee (maybe 3 snows a year), it's a melting pot with much culture and history. Moderator cut: cut The unemployment rate is low, there's are wonderful medical, music and business communities. Living is affordable. You can still get a beautiful home for $250,000 and a not-so-beautiful, but perfectly nice home in a suburban neighborhood for under $200,000.
I moved to Nashville in 1993 from South Florida and love it. I suggest a pleasure trip, first, and make sure to take the kids to the Adventure Science Center, Adventure Science Center | Nashville, TN.

I'm from the Chicago area as well, and I love Franklin. You could afford Brentwood which is a little more upity but the high schools get more money then Franklin. Whenever I go back north to visit, I always think that IL is so ugly. We have a bit of culture, nothing like Chicago. We meet all your basic shopping needs in Franklin, which was important to me. Must live in either Franklin or Brentwood. We are melting pots. Very little old money left.
The adven ture science center sucks compared to museum of science and industry. i would reccomend the TN state museum, because its not in chicago and free. On the weekends, meters are free downtown in Nashville but i would make sure you have a job yes we have vanderbilt but its hard to get in.
i just found this so you get to hear me respond as i read the franklin school issue here goes. we had a really bad board member its election time this year and i plan i voting the snot out. she rezoned the schools so all the lower income levels and apartments are all zoned for centennial high. which they use to be spread out across the schools so there was never a problem before. we are also about to elect a new sherrif which i can't wait cuz the last one was a druggy. ( ok i said something bad about my beloved town) but they are all campaigning to crack down and centennial is also cracking down as well. they were just shocked and thought it would never happen, so they were a little slow at first, but your kids are little, it will be cleaned up before you get there. and i have to say, the stupid racist people i hear are from all over the country which means i don't think its more racist hear then anywhere else in america. i love franklin cuz there is still a sense of that small town great fairs and festivals (people drive in just to come to our pumpkin fest, its great! full of trick or treating for the kids with even free games too) with all the modern conviences of shopping and much prettier then our northern home. and you can always go to the museums when you go back for a visit. oh and if you like the theater, we have the best little theater caller the boiler room theater at the factory (an artsy kinda shopping mall that use to be a stove factory very cute) the best preformances i have ever seen have been there . ok i guess i'm done ranting happy picking

La to seattle to franklin
HI There,
I was just wondering, I know Truckee well, we have friends there. We were in Marin for a while and have been on Bainbridge Island for 5 years now. We love the people but can't do the darkness... Have had my eye on Franklin for a while. Love music and people, but want really good schools for out little guy starting K in the fall. Know Brentwood has good schools, but am afraid it is too snobby for us. How are you finding the schools in franklin?

That was over 6 years ago. We love it here.
As for the weather, we had our windows open here earlier this week, while it was snowing back in CA.
Suckers!

We love it. As for the schools, we started out here in Montessori, then transferred both kids into public. We live in the Franklin Special School District, but Williamson County Schools are good too. All the high schools are WCS.
There are plenty of posts about these schools here. Just do a search. There are those who love them, and those who argue theirs are better. I'm just glad my kids are happy there, and are doing well. Through volunteering, I have gotten to know the kids, parents and faculty.
Good luck!
