Im looking for folks who may have relocated to the Nashville area that carry NY based healthcare plans.
We are looking in the area and I'm hoping that some Ex-new Yorkers could be of some assistance.
BTW we Are GHI as of now. Just want to know how much hassle I'd be in for.
Thanks in advance to you all.

I see no one answered you.
Well I just recently moved here (3 months living in Hendersonville in apartment).
I will be settling into Gallatin/hendersonville subdivision come the new year.

I too have GHI and BCBS for hospital.
There are some GHI doctors but not many at all. It's been a bit challenging as I have a son with a lifelong illness that needs constant medical care.
We actually sent him back to NY to see his dermatologist. If anything big comes up with him (or us for that matter) we will fly back to NY for care.

CVS has med clinics here that accept GHI. I know there is a GYN/OBGYN in (I think) Murfreesboro. There is also a local medical group of four doctors that accept GHI here in Hendersonville.

Haven't found any specialists that accept GHI. Been paying out of pocket for my son's gastro appt.

There is a Quest Diagnostics here too. I believe that is in Nashville.

As I live here longer I will find out more info. Please feel free to private me.

Good luck.

Thanks for reply,
I'm a little lost, I've done research on area and from what I can tell, CVS does not take GHI/NYC, have you gone to a CVS that accepts our ins?

Also who are these 4 doctors, I see none in Hendersonville. Have you been to them, if so could you please foward me their info as I have not located any in Hendersonville.

Also, who is the OBGYN , as I have called many of them and none are taking our insurance.
If you have gone to one who does, again can you provide that contact number also?

Thanks in advance,
Escape

I have to go look. Yes, CVS does accept GHI. They have these mini clinics with physicians assisstants. You know for small stuff like anti obits for ear infections, but bites, minor stuff.

I haven't gone to OBGYN yet. I'm only here four months. Our priority was setting our son up for infusion/chemo in TriStar Hospital. It took 3 months and an $108,000 bill that we were responsible for, but with the help of Tom Wilemon, a medical journalist from the Tennessean, the situation was resolved.

This is one of our concerns but if anything major comes up, we will fly back to NY.

I will try to get the info of the limited doctors that are said to accept GHI. We do have a Quest Labs in Nashville, so at least blood tests can be processed through them.

Mi shots, how did the journalist help with the bill?

Also did u get stuck with any of it, or was it taken care of?

This is a big concern, was the bill due to out of network? or misunderstanding of plan?

Lastly, knowing what you know now, would you have still moved to TN?

First, yes, I would still chose to be here. I love Tennessee.

There was an overcharge. The charge for that service is actually $16,000 at Stonybrook University Hospital. At TriStar, the same procedure, same medicine was billed for $54,000 and BCBS denied it because it was billed wrong. We need this procedure every 8 weeks for my son. We were on the phone for 6 weeks back and forth with TriStar, BCBS, etc..... It wasn't until we tweeted out what was happening that our calls and concerns were addressed.....damage control.
Tom Wilemon picked up on it and was going to write a piece for the Tennessean newspaper. All the sudden things started to fall into place. The bill has been taken care of and hospital has been paid with no out of pocket for us.

As time goes by we will figure out how to manage our medical care/needs. I'm not too concerned. Please keep in mind, since there is a lower cost of living here, the out of pocket visit is also lower. As stated before, if anything serious is needed we will fly to NY.

Believe me, this is very serious for us too. My son has been in remission for almost 7 years. We are not going to play around with what works.

I would imagine as more NY/NJ people relocate to Tennessee, more doctors will enroll in our insurance. Worst case, you could always drive to Atlant, Georgia for care as our insurance is excepted over there.
