I'm an incoming graduate student to Vanderbilt looking for a progressive episcopal church in Nashville. Ideally a parish with a fair number of younger adults, though I understand that's a fairly tall order in the Episcopal Church given its size and predominantly older population.

From where I'll be living, St. David's is the closest to me but I'll be all of 15 minutes from downtown Nashville so I'm willing to drive.

Being I'll be a student at the Divinity School, I'll likely just attend Episcopal services at Benton, though I wanted to find a more "traditional" church as well.

I would try Christ Church Cathedral downtown. It's large enough where there is a fair sized young adult population. Message me if you would like some more info.

The downtown Cathedral would be my suggestion too.

How is St. Ann's perceived in the Episcopalian community? I've known 2 folks who went there and got the impression they were very progressive, maybe the most progressive in the city. Unsure of the size of the congregation though...seemed a tad on the small size compared to others. Just curious for future threads such as this one.

St. Ann's is very progressive. The OP should check it out and attend a mass one weekend.

The potential problem with St. Ann's is size. It's a tiny congregation.

OP -- St. Philip's in Donelson is subtle-progressive. You might give it a visit (in addition to the others mentioned here). It would be a 10-15 minute drive from the divinity school.

TEC has a long and distinguished history throughout Tennessee. I'm sure you'll hear more about that as you become more involved in church life here.

Welcome!

It is very small, but they do a lot of outreached and great work.

If the original poster is looking for a "progressive" Episcopal church, which ones can be recommended as the "conservative" ones?

Good question GolfMomTN. I'm sure there are some more traditional Episcopal or Anglican churches in Nashville that would be preferable to some.
