This is according to CNN which listed what they consider to be the 17 coolest bookstores in the world. Only 5 are in the U.S.

When "Bel Canto" author Ann Patchett opened a bookstore in Nashville on a whim, with a partner she'd just met, she didn't expect to be become the unofficial spokesperson for independent bookstores struggling in Amazon's wake...

I have been in there a number of times. It's perfectly fine -- but nothing special. The bookstore does host some cool events and interesting authors, though. Maybe that's what makes it so cool to these folks? Or maybe they've never been to any other bookstore? Who knows?

I think these list creators just look to see if Nashville has it, and then include it on the list just because it's the cool thing to do.

Trust me, there are a lot of cool and up and coming places in Nashville that deserve recognition...but it scares me to see so many Nashville mentions on these 'best of' or 'top #' lists....especially when the place mentioned is either new, or there's arguably a better place in town not listed.

They got this one right, though, IMO. I was just there Monday night for a signing. The best-selling author was on a very limited 3-week tour, but Nashville made his short list. He wouldn't have come if all we had to offer was a Barnes and Noble. There are many writers who come here because of Parnassus. Their calendar is impressive! Parnassus supports the Southern Festival of Books, as well as other events/local literary causes, too.

Nashville may be making some Top Ten lists undeservedly, but this one is well-earned.

What about the former Davis Kidd?

I'd have to agree. I've been there a number of times and every single time it's almost as if it were too much for the staff to actually answer any questions or help.

I think this is less about Nashville and more about Ann Patchett. My friends from New York were interested in seeing her bookstore because of who she is. (And New York has the Strand.)

I know we like to pretend like, Go home, media, we're sooo over the title of Galaxy's Coolest City, but this is not that.

It's not pretending. This stuff (not specifically this list) is getting annoying. Just the other day, Barista Parlor was named one of the top coffee shops in the nation.

GO HOME, MEDIA. NOTHIN' TO SEE HERE. WE'RE JUST MINDIN' AR BIZNUSS WALKIN' ROUND BAREFOOT AN WATCHIN' RERUNS OF HEE HAW.

I never thought I would actually miss those days.
