Anyone have suggestions for good spots downtown to take family/childrens portraits?

Thanks!

Like for a Christmas card? And you want to be able to tell it's Nashville? Parthenon might be fun? Some interesting club fronts on Lower Broad but not appropriate for kids I think, and it's always so busy. On the pedestrian bridge looking back at the city perhaps?

Yes, if you don't need it to be downtown, Cheekwood would be a great place!

Are you hiring a photographer? Local photographers are great at ferreting out cool locations.

I've seen some taken downtown recently that included walking across the pedestrian bridge, the Johnny Cash mural near the Country Music HOF, and the new Cumberland Park, with the skyline in the background.

If you just want nature, try Ellington Agricultural Center. History? Cool Springs House in Brentwood is a very popular spot.

I see photographers taking portraits in the sunken floral garden at Centennial Park often when I'm over there...it's in the back on the other side of the Parthenon.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! Keep 'em coming! I'm not hiring a photographer, just looking for some neat backdrops to take my own pictures of my little one with my DSLR.

Does anyone know where there is a 5 (something like the 4 in this photo http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/happ...-mila-1-159549, for example)?

As a former professional photographer, I can tell you that the background really doesn't matter much. I am probably going to go with a shallow depth of field anyway so the background will be out of focus and all you will see is color.

The lighting is a much more important factor. Try going in the first hour after sunrise or in that last hour before sunset to get gorgeous, flattering light. Most people shoot in midday sun which is the worst thing you can do. The lighting is very harsh and no one looks good in it. Cloudy days are preferable to bright sunlight but the last hour before sunset on a sunny day is the best light you can get, especially if you get good color in the sunset.

Oh, I completely understand. Thanks! I take way too many photos, but I was just thinking of getting some with a more "urban" scene/feel to them. Hope that makes sense!
