Seeking Young Church with Liberal Views (home, university, campus)

Greetings folks,

Can anybody recommend any churches in the Nashville area with a liberal view on things (i.e. they believe the Bible is open to interpretation, gays are not bashed, women are allowed at all ranks, etc)?

Preferably a church with plenty of 30-somethings and young children.


As I'm uprooting my wife from everything she knows to launch a business down in Nashville I want to make sure I'm giving her plenty of opportunities to make friends and church seems like a good way to go about doing this.

However, even though I have faith in God I don't particularly agree with many of the conservative church values and I'm concerned about finding a church down there that will align with our beliefs.


Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

We really need to know your denominational affiliation/preferences.

Once that's established there are several episcopal, UCC, and some others that I and others can recommend.

I'm partial to Saint Augustine's - it's an Episcopal Church on the campus of Vanderbilt University that is open to the public. Very affirming church, lead by two female priests and it's attended by many musicians that are involved in music services during worship so that's nice.

If you're asking whether I've attended church, the answer is yes, my whole life. But I'm not a "y'all," since I'm only one person.

Of course, the question isn't about me.

I was raised Episcopal and her Catholic however we're really not concerned about what denomination the church is, just looking for the right fit. The Episcopal churches we've been to here are great but even though they have liberal views the services themselves are very umm...uptight? We're looking for something more contemporary with more energy!


If there are contemporary Episcopal churches up there that fit this then that's great. However, if there are other churches with liberal values and a contemporary atmosphere just as great!

Certainly not with any regularity


The closest thing we have to a home church at the moment is my parent's church which is 3.5 hours away but we always attend when we visit. It is a Methodist church and while they do have a pretty liberal view on things the average age of attendees is likely in the 70s and certainly not what we're looking for in that respect!
