Schools and towns
I have searched these forums and I don't think my particular question has been answered so here goes:
We are looking for a home in a more established neighborhood with mature trees. We also are interested in being near a Christian school for our children that isn't outrageously priced and not too small-(PK-12 with around 600-1000 students). However, we also want to live in a top notch public school district (for home values as well as a fall back plan for educating our children). The job commute takes us more on the west side but the commute is probably our last consideration. Our target home price is probably 300-375. Any recommendations on suburbs to check out?

Mary, can you be more specific in terms of how near you need to be(distance or maximum drive time) as well as what you consider outrageously priced(what is the most you would want to pay per child)? What grade are your children in? We can give you a much better response if we had this information.

Hi gbone,
For Christian school tuition I want to stay around $6-7K. Drive time I would like to keep around 15-20 minutes or less. And I have children in elementary, middle school and high school.
Thanks so much!

Mary, one other question. What part of Nashville will your job(s) be located as this might be a consideration?

His job will be on the western edge of Nashville, near John Tune airport. But he said to consider that the last factor in our decision.

Mary, the best place to start looking would be in an area called Bellvue, which is the west side of Nashville. It's in zip code 37221 and has a Christian school that you might be interested in. The school is Nashville Christian School with grades from Pre-K through the 12th grade. It has approximately 650 students. I couldn't get their tuition information online as they were working on their website. The contact number their is 615-356-5600.
You will also have no difficulty finding a house in the price range you are looking in. I did a quick search and found over fifty currently on the market in zip code 37221.
Another plus is that it is fairly easy to get to the John C. Tune airport from Bellvue.
Another resource to check for Christian schools is Private School Review - Profiles of USA Private Schools. You will need to navigate to Tennessee and then Nashville.
Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck with your search.

Thanks for the information, gbone. What public schools do Bellvue residents send their children to? Even though we may not use the public schools I still would want to buy in a good school district.

Mary, the high school would be Hillwood Comp High School, the middle school would probably be Bellvue Middle School. The elementary school will depend on where in Bellvue you live. The website for the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools is MNPS Home Page. You should be able to find out most of the information you need.

There's two elementary schools in Bellevue (Harpeth and Gower) and an middle school. The high school age kids here in public school go to Hillwood High. I've lived in Bellevue for over twenty years. By the way, since you're not familiar with the area, you don't want to live anywhere near John Tune . . . not the least of reason is the area is also home to the Tennessee State Prison. I was typing while gbone was posting. I sort of duplicated his answer. Now if I can just get him to put the extra e in Bellevue . . . ;-)

OK, that is something very good to know.
You guys are awesome with all of this information. OK, I have been searching around a lot in this forum and it seems that the general concensus has been to stay out of Davidson County schools. Are these schools considered in that district? How close would I be to Williamson County from Bell evue?
