Hi,
I want to move to 5 points or east nash but I noticed this area too. Can anyone tell me what the people or like or the bar scene? I am moving from san Francisco and I want to see if this area would be a good fit. I am looking for more the 5 points art/music scene but I am not sure Antioch has this? Or is it more suburbia in the middle of knowhere? Thanks for your input! |

Antioch is suburbia ad infinitum. If you are looking for a west coast feel, that isn't it. You are better sticking with the east Nashville area around Five Points or the midtown area around Vanderbilt. It really comes down to your price point.

I'd agree with MarkDaughery about the Midtown area. That sounds more like what you're looking for; although it is more expensive than East Nashville. Edgehill might also be a possibility.

Antioch is "suburbia" in Nashville the same way Compton is in Los Angeles. It's not well-manicured neighborhoods and picket fences, its miles and miles of high-crime/low-rent apartment complexes with throngs of illegals. It is to be avoided at all costs.

In my opinion, it was well said on this forum on another topic that"you have to take some of these strong warnings against Antioch and other neighborhoods and their surroundings with a grain of salt. I know people often mean well on this board but I believe the fear rhetoric about certain neighborhoods can be a bit overzealous and unrealistic. There's no reason to be afraid of your own shadow in Antioch. One has about as a little chance of being a victim of random crime in that area as they do a couple of miles away in Brentwood."

I live within walking distance of 5 points and wouldn't trade my tiny abode for a million dollars...okay a million, only because that money would bring me even closer to 5 points than I am now. I rented a townhome for several years in Antioch and I really enjoyed that I was only 10 miles from Downtown, but hey, now I'm just a mile...

I think you will much prefer East Nashville. I did my time in Antioch when I first moved here and would never go back. That was 8 years ago and it's gotten worse from what I hear (just ask Pimpy). Crime is an issue in both places, but you get the feeling it's seems like it's getting better in East Nashville and worse in Antioch...plus your a hop skip ands a jump from downtown...Also, If you are looking for a San Francisco vibe (albeit on a smaller scale), East Nashville is definitly a destination...only thing close might be Hillsboro Village but it's generally high $$$.

I'm not saying all of Antioch is bad, but if you are from out of town, it may be harder to know where to buy and where not to buy. Diane G |
