You might want to check how many people per 1,000 have been gunned down in your town in the last couple of years. I don't think any other Rutherford town would look nearly as bad as yours.
Glad I'm not the only one who's heard enough of how wonderful M'boro is.

Mike in TN: Yes, most of the crime is found in Lake Forest Estates for one simple reason: most of the residents of La Vergne live here. Plain and simple.

As a LFE resident for the last 2 years, I can tell you that I sleep well at night. I feel safe. I know my neighbors and we all watch out for each other. We've never had an issue on our block in the time I've been here. Yes, indeed, there is crime in the subdivision, but there's crime everywhere. That is a sad reality no matter where we go.

I also agree - Comparisons to Chicago housing / living costs are silly.

As for crime - it's everywhere, and there are no crime-free areas here, just like the rest of the country. But Northwest (#1 worst - Bordeuax/MetroCenter areas) Downtown/East Nashville (most but not all) and South (high immigrant and gang activity area - most, but not all parts) are the undisputed anuses of the area.

I lived in the South area near Antioch/ Glencliff and over 12 years there - was burglarized once and had a major crime right behind my house (sheriff murdered delivering a warrant) but there was always something going on. Once I was running with my my wife and someone in a passing car tossed an orange parking cone and hit me ....I just got sick of it all so......

...We eventually moved to Smyrna. Now it's growing out of control, but crime is not nearly as bad. But I decided to get a state gun permit and now carry a pistol everywhere for the first time in 51 years. It may not solve everything - but the extra 50% security it gives me was worth the time, training, and cost. (Please spare me the endless/ poinltess gun debate!)

Although crime rates are supposedly dropping nationwide - it seems to me that the intensity of violent crimes is way over the top with random anhilations, etc....so I'm as prepared as I can be.

Anyway - the "bedroom" communities are probably your best bet overall...Smyrna, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet, Franklin, Goodlettsville, Joelton, Ashland City...etc.

hey I moved from chicago after 39 years there to Peoria, cheaper rent higher food prices terrible cooks in restaurants. Were moving to Nashville june or july 08 I have seriously spent the last two months doing research you DONT want to live anywhere near Antioch or south of Nashville unless you go as far south as Bell Rd. The crime rate is especially high, home invasions is high and robberies not robbing the store but the stick up man as we call it on south side...I left Ashburn area to Peoria learned a lot from the chicago police who love the southwest side and got crime info directly from Nashville police I have a 15 year old who is home schooled so this is very important. West Nash is a bit safer however there is a current increase in robberies according to the police there, North Nashville is beautiful I have family from Maywood and Peoria in Madison they say it is cool kinda like North side and evanston as far as crime /statistics are low in that area too.
Holla back!
