Nashville gets a bum rap when you take all the suburban folks driving to downtown Nashville to work. The 40 miles one way to Lebanon, Murfreesboro, etc starts to add up. The survey needs to add closer in areas like Bellevue, Hermitage, etc that are still a part of Davidson Co. True, there's not much public transit from downtown to these places.

I agree. Nashville is a mixed bag indeed and quite deceptive. It's NOT inexpensive to live here. I've found lots of "big city" price tags on small houses and tiny condos. You can find those same prices in larger cities where the wages are much higher and there is a much larger selections of schools, stores, arts and entertainment, etc.

I'm not knocking Nashville--it's a lovely city in general. I've mostly felt safe here and the weather is usually quite nice. But the cost of living is not one of its selling points. If you are thinking of moving here you should also research property and sales tax, food and utility rates, crime stats, average pay rates in your field, and quality of life issues such as radon dangers, black mold, flood-prone areas, average commuting time, (it's reported as the longest in the nation,) school quality, etc., before moving here.

Good luck to you.
worst things - tornados, summers, sales tax, traffic, air quality, housing (Quality of- or lack therof)[/quote]

This is a great post. I agree 100%.

Bearing in mind the post that you quoted was from over 3 years ago (Feb 2008), I stand by that prediction.
