We are looking at Mt. Juliet. We are very interested in living close to a lake and freeway close to Nashville socially. We believe that Mt Juliet meets botthose needs. We also would like to have some privacy and property...not necessarily in a crowded neighborhood....like we are in San Diego.. We have even considered Franklin depending on the location of our employers...I would prefer some acreage (1-2 acres) in Mt. Juliet to rent for a year or so, first.

Here are some crazy random questions I have come up with for the Henderson/Mt. Juliet areas.

What is the preferred cell phone in these areas around Nashville? I have a nextel with a year left on contract....

Are there Jehovah Witness (spelling??) churches in these towns? (I'm not one)

Is it uncommon to see a girl with a few tattoos on her arms?

Is smoking allowed in restaurants and/or bars?

Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate the responses I have been getting.

Irreplacable,
I'm from upstate NY, Hudson Valley area and we landed in the Knoxville area. This area of Tn. reminds me very much of the area of NY I was from, the scenery is beautiful. I've never been to either town you ask about.
There is no smoking in any bar or restaurant state wide. It has become a no smoking state just as NY is.
I've seen many women with tatts on them.In the year and a half I have lived in East Tn. many different faiths/churches have knocked on our door, don't recall if any of them were Jehovah's or not.
As a former waitress, I was surprised to learn that it is common to tip anywhere from 8-10% in these parts.Back when I waitressed the common tip was 15-20%.
Good luck with your move!
Pam

Hi Pam,
Have you been overall happy with your move? (if you don't mind me asking) I'm glad to hear it's smoke free! I smoke(wish I didn't) but I like to go out to eat and don't want my kids in a smoke filled place trying to eat. OUCH on the tips though. I bar-tend and waitress so thanks for the heads up!

Pam&Bill are right about smoking for the most part; however, a bar or restaurant can allow smoking as long as they only permit those 21 and up to enter. I'm not sure of the exact percentage, but in Nashville probably 2/3rd have chosen to be smoke-free, and 1/3rd have chosen to allow smoking.

For what it's worth, no one I hang out with tips that poorly. 8-10%? That's terrible!! Within my circle, 10% is for the very worst service, hardly ever happens. 20% is the norm for us.

15 to 20% is typical for me and my group of friends as well, at least up to the first $50. I only tip less if it's a very expensive meal and the tip itself would be over $20.
