I currently live in the Detroit area and have visited Nashville in the summer. Comparatively, Nashville is a lot more humid than Detroit is during the summer months.

I grew up in a hot dry climate (Redding California) and can say that Nashville is not all that bad. There is probably a month out of the year that you might really notice the humidity. Some years are better and some are worse. August is usually the worst month. They difference between here and the other places you mention are that we are prepared for it with air conditioning. Many places in the north do not have it. You will not hear of peoply dying because of heat and humidity in Nashville, that is normally reserved for people in the Northern climes. My two cents anyway!!

Nashville summers will definitely be more humid than what you are accustomed to, and I don't think anyone has said that yet. I just don't want your expectations to be misset. It gets hot here, no doubt, but it is not something that I don't think you could adjust to. My husband grew up in Cleveland OH and, in my opinion, it's extremely cold there...most of the time All he knew was a colder climate. I was worried about him adjusting here, but I could not drag him back to Ohio now. He was in Columbus in November when it was still very nice here, and called me 5 times complaining about how cold it was there. And when "fall" started to hit here, he wished he could have the 100+ degree days back we had in mid-summer. You probably won't be as extreme a convert as him, but you'll notice that you adapt to it. I do have some friends from Michigan who love the change, but I also have some friends who miss the colder climate, especially the snow of Michigan, and don't love the change. So you'll have divided opinions of people you talk to...the one thing I really think you will like is the amount of sunny days regardless of temperature. It really is beautiful so much of the time here. And when they say it will be partly cloudy and sometimes even mostly cloudy here, it means mostly sunny with a few clouds passing by. The exception is rainy days, which we do get in the proper seasons. The bottom line is I think you'll find it to be a lot less gloomy here.
