Well, Springfield has a little higher crime rate than what you would expect for the size town it is. It has attracted some undesirable folks over the years. The Electrolux plant was raided by the INS after Channel 5 did a story on how like 80% of the workforce were illegal Mexicans (hence the little green men title). It does have a nice looking downtown. I would be afraid of getting jacked, though. The Bell Witch is also from Robertson County (this is a bad thing).
Speaking of the Bell Witch, it seems as if she has taken over the body of Mayor Danny Crosby of Coopertown (also in Robertson). The dude is mental, and Coopertown should be forcibly unincorporated by the state legislature due to the citizens electing him mayor. That, and the fact that it is just a bunch of fields and houses with no town (disappointing). And, well, also due to the fact that it is a notorious speed trap...pulling people over for 38 in a 35. If that is the only way the town can make money to pay their crackpot mayor, it should not be incorporated. Coopertown is just one huge drama - if it were a movie or TV show, Deidre Hall would play Crosby. It is a stupid town, which is unfortunate for the other good people who live there. The state really should intervene. I guess they are afraid Crosby will sue them, too, like he is suing the people who tried to basically impeach him for being totally and undeniablly corrupt. I wouldn't live there due just to that crazy bastard. He should write an autobiography of how the town idiot became mayor and terrorized everyone. If you go out driving in the area, also be wary of Ashland City. It is an odd river town of about 3500 people, and they all work for the city police or sheriff's department. Hwys. 12 and 49 are like an enforcement playground. Paying for the police is one reason why AC and Cheatham County's property taxes are so ridiculously high. Pleasant View is really the only nice town in that area. The small police force does look for speeders, but they aren't out marauding people like Third World spear chuckers. The only skanky thing is the old car wash, which badly needs to be condemned and torn down. It is a great place, the people are nice, and the schools are awesome. The mayor, Kerry McCarver, is a good guy, too, and he tells Crosby across the interstate where to put his exit ramp lights and cops. Makes me proud to live in PV. So to answer your question about Springfield and the surrounding area, I guess this should paint not a good, but albeit vivid picture. Best Springfield tip: If you see an old, rusty, white, van overweighted with people with big hats in the other lane, just pull over and wait for them to pass. The only identification or registration they have is their pass to get into the parking lot of the local industry that is undercutting the wages of the American worker. Enough of my tirade, I know. Good luck in your home search. Last edited by Lyle; 02-16-2008 at 12:16 AM. |

I strongly disagree on Pleasant View being the ONLY good area in Robertson County. Ridgetop, Greenbrier, Cross Plains, Orlinda or White House are great areas in Robertson County. It sounds as if you are just partial to Pleasant View without being "fair" on your view on other parts of Robertson County. |

Also, I didn't say the people were bad. I certainly feel sorry for all of them in those communities. You and alleycat have been around this blog long enough that I certainly respect your all's opinion, and I do feel obliged to explain. Last edited by Lyle; 02-17-2008 at 07:40 AM. |

You sound just like some stuck up person that never goes beyond his on neighborhood. I was born and raised in one of the housing areas in Springfield before things changed. I am a very responsible, respective and productive citizen. And I have a great job and support myself. Currently I do not reside in Springfield but in a large metropolitian area. I can't wait to move back home. Please remember not to judge a book by it's cover. It is not allows the areas the are bad, but the people that come into the areas.

I thought the jab was at me, first, and PC, well, me not so much. I didn't know the cable company would run a cable internet connection to a cardboard box. Wireless, maybe? Home is where the heart is, but modern amenities? I hope this person doesn't tell the folks downtown about their set up, I mean, talk about mad. Comcast really doesn't deliver. Il-native, I hope everything works out for you. If you ever want any useful and truthful real estate info, and maybe a laugh at someone else's expense, come by anytime. |

Good morning! I'm a real estate agent and live in Springfield. As is the case in any city you have good and not so good schools, Springfield and the surrounding areas are no different. I've lived in Springfield at the Legacy for over 5 years and enjoy living here. It's a small, growing town and population that lies near the center of Robertson county where it is said over 50% of the county jobs are derived from agriculture. Let me know if I can help.

I respectfully disagree that Springfield is "a small, growing town". It is a once thriving city that has shrunk to the status of a bedroom community to Davidson county. Houses abound, but we are limited in our choices of grocery stores and entertainment. The Hispanic community has added some much needed diversity, but we are far from cosmopolitan. Prepare to eat white bread. The library is small. The Walmart is large. If you don't mind driving to the city to work and shop, you may be happy. I think people who have strong church connections will have an easier time making social connections here. ~smile~ An interest in golf may also be an asset, depending on where in Springfield you live. jc |
