Moving to Antoich, TN in April...
My husband just accepted a job in Antioch, TN and we are relocating from California in April. We are looking to rent a 2-3 bedroom home in a quiet area.
I am worried because we do not know anything about Antioch or surrounding cities that would be close enough to commute. Can anyone tell us what are the most affordale and safe communites for a small middle class family?

Antioch, um, well
I would look in Smyrna or La Vergne in Rutherford County. It would be a very short commute, less taxes, and less crime. No doubt, it is a no-brainer.

I can't believe people haven't tried to warn you about Antioch yet. Well, let me be the first to tell you there are some rough areas of Antioch, but there are plenty that are fine as well. If I was in your situation, I would look for something in the Percy Priest Lake area.

You didn't meantion having kids but I do and my husband will be transferring to Antioch also. The schools are not very good at all. I can come back on and give you and update as to how the area is when I get back from visiting next week. I really liked Mt. Juliet and Hendersonville from all my research. Havent looked at Percy Priest or La Vergne yet but I will now. Good Luck!

Antioch is not what it used to be. Alot of car theft, break in's and overall the crime in the Antioch. I too would look elsewhere. I'm not sure that Percy Priest is much better. You would probably be better off in Smyrna or Hendersonville. Or if you don't mind the drive and could afford it, Franklin or Spring Hill.
Work in Antioch but steer clear of living there.

Percy Priest=Antioch proper, right? That's what I've always heard. Of course there is a big difference b/w Lower Antioch (L.A.) and Percy Priest area. LA is the rough area, while Percy Priest has some pretty nice areas middle class areas, but also, lots of newer construction that seems to be lower end.
In my opinion, LaVergne seems to fall somewhere inbetween the LA and Percy Priest areas.

I know someone wanting to lease a 1500sqft/3bed for about 850 a month in antioch, which is pretty good! (I checked it out as an investmet property) Rent can be high in the Nashville area. (I rent my 1 bed room 500sqft for 500 a mo-for example! I've been out there and I liked where he was located although honestly not all of antioch is as great. Other ideas could be hermatige depending on his work location. I really like hermatige myself! Check craigs list for places to live. Anyway I know the listing is in craigs list under real estate for sale orI could give you info if you are interested.
Good Luck-you'll love TENNESSEE!

Is Antioch that bad
I have been looking at homes in Antioch as well and will be checking out the area when I visit in March. Most people on this board have mixed feelings about Antioch. There are a lot of nice homes in this area. I don't think one can escape crime no matter where they go. Is Antioch discouraged because of the higher rate of minorities in this area? Crime is everywhere, no matter where you reside. I think you have to judge the area for yourself, just as we are going to do in March.

If you want a better investment, I suggest Smyrna which has better schools and much less crime. I will no longer go to the Hickory Hollow Mall in Antioch because there were few shootings during the DAY. I know someone who lives in one of those nice homes there but wish that she bought elsewhere instead. You can also check out Nolensville(Williamson County Schools). I know Smyrna though will be about equal in price to Antioch.
