I have a few friends visiting from big cities this weekend (LA and NYC). I would like to take them some place really cool. I know the Gulch has plenty of restaurants, but what about bars? Can someone recommend some good places either downtown or midtown? Thanks.

Demonbreun is good. Plenty of fun places for a drink. Try tayst (on 21st just off 440) for dinner or dessert, too.

The Gulch has Bar 23 and Sambuca, but I would recommend taking your friends somewhere more authentic Nashville, like The Station Inn for beers and bluegrass. Cool bars in Nashville just aren't going to measure up to cool bars in NYC or LA so why try when we have our own great culture?

Good point. You could mix it up, too. Try The Bound'ry for dinner, then drink your way down Broadway or up Demonbreun

Thanks. I am planning to do dinner at Cabana in Hillsboro, and then head to the bars on Demonbreaun. After that, will probably hit the Gulch. Maybe, Sambuca (if it has a bar scene), or Bar Twenty3, or Station Inn.

For two of the trendiest in town, try Laly'a Ru, next to Bound'ry, or Lot 7 on 12th in the Gulch. Both attract pretty people, professional athletes, musicians, etc. Justin Timberlake partied at Laly'a after his most recent concert here.

Wow. These places seem really cool based on the pictures and reviews. Thank you.

Sambuca is also fun for dinner. I have been to many restaurants in NYC and haven't found one yet with a setting similar to Sambuca - live music (non-country music) in a place with a lively ambiance and upscale setting. Layl'a is probably the closest thing you will find to a NYC lounge/club in Nashville. I would even think about taking them to the various honky tonks downtown to give them a different taste of going out that they definitely won't get back at home in LA or NYC. Of course if they are the judgemental types and you don't want to scare them off then maybe stick to Layl'a and the other recommended places. Some people from LA/NY can't accept that country music in a honky tonk can be a good time no matter what you tell them.

Where on Demonbreun is recommended as good places to go?

Paradise Park is the best new bar in Nashville. It's right on Broadway at 4th Ave, and the house band is AMAZING. They play mostly country and southern rock and change the lyrics at every opportunity (e.g., "I bought a Coke and some Vaseline"). The entire bar is festooned in trailer park decor, and the bartenders and waitresses wear ripped jeans and wife beaters. A good time is always had by all!

I kinda agree with hml1976; rather than look for something trendy, look for something unique.

Some years ago I had a friend whose in-laws were from NYC; almost the stereotypical New Yorkers. Guess where the in-laws always liked to go when they came to Nashville to visit. Of all places . . . Cracker Barrel. I'm not kidding, honest.
