Oh My Got my Electric Bill Today
I own a house in Portland (1250 sq ft) and it is empty. We don't move there until April. We are still in California. Anyway I got my CEMC bill today and it is $125.00 and my house is empty with the Thermostat set at 50 degrees. The house is all electric and I guess I am in for sticker shock when we actually move there.
I am thinking about installing a wood stove would that be practical?
Also does anyone know of a Landfill close to Portland?
Does anyone know a reliable Car dealer I am going to need to buy a 4x4 truck in the 7k range?
I have a million questions I am going to have to ask in the next couple months and this web site so far has been awesome for people relocating to Tennessee. I hope you don't get tired of seeing them.... Thanks Lee

Something is wrong. I have a small house too and my electric bill was about that and I keep it around 72 and use electric for everything. The rate might be slightly different between CEMC and Nashville Electric, but probably not very much since TVA rates are the main factor. I pay about $.08 per KWH as I recall.

Well, see there. You don't have a high electric bill . . . you have squatters! That's one worry off your mind.

I would hope we don't have squatters .... People have been watching the house for us...
I am not sure what kind of heat it is. I know the house was built in 03 and it is a unit on the side of the house. The girl I talked to yesterday said that on 1-20-08 when it was 9 degrees the house used 107 KWH @ 8:00am and that it used 26 KWH normally. She said that they read my meter via digital readout. This is so hard being 2500 miles away.
