Texas surpassed New York in population decades ago, Georgia surpassed New Jersey, Florida surpassed Illinois and Tennessee is about to surpass Massachusetts within the year. If people in the South are ignorant then you might as well say the same for the captains of industry. And if you look at per capita income as a measure of productivity and resourcefulness of a population, then Georgia is more productive than Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Ohio since the state ranks higher in per-capita income-- something not accomplished by ignorant people, unless they just happen to be less ignorant than those in the aforesaid 3 states.

I would grow tired, too, of the stereotypes if I was from the south. I'm from the north and there are plenty of ignorant people up here. I'm really confused how these northerners can assume these things about the south. Others made a good point, why is Ford Motor Company about to close shop (it's true, Ford is losing 20 billion dollars a year and they only have 40 billion left-so if they don't figure something out in 2 years they will be bankrupt) if there are so many intelligent people up north-or should I say up norf as people like to say in these parts! People in Michigan are leaving in droves to go south and start a new life for themselves.
