hello! I am from the Chicagoland area. My husband and I are honestly tired of just about everything going on in IL. We are a young family with a 2yr old daughter and a dog. We are looking to relocate to TN near Nashville areas. Mostly Franklin, Mt. Juliet, or Hermitage from our research thus far. Although we have much more research to do. Any suggestions of other areas with younger families?

Also, I am a nurse case manager right now and was wondering how the job market for nurses is in TN? Are there a lot of hospitals in the area?

Any information would help. Thanks!

All three are pretty good places to live. Mt Juliet/Franklin seem to be very popular with young families. Hermitage is not bad either.

Franklin- Williamson Medical Center

Hermitage- Summit Hospital

Mt.Juliet- Lots of Medical offices by Providence, Vanderbilt Children's East, TriStar ER Hospital (opening in 1-2 year's off Beckwith Rd. Exit.

I'd also suggest Hendersonville/Sumner County for the education system. Hendersonville Hospital has begun to attract a modest amount of related offices near it. Skyline Hospital is also fairly close in Madison and has a medical center with lots of offices adjoining (though I wouldn't recommend Madison as a place to live if you're concerned with schools). The other direction is Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin and there is Sumner Station in the Station Camp area that is an offshoot of St Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

The highest density of medical jobs in the Nashville area is in the Midtown/West End area around St. Thomas Midtown (Formerly "Baptist Hospital"), Vanderbilt Hospital, Centennial Hospital, and St. Thomas Hospital (Main Campus off of West End Avenue). You'd have to factor commute time in this area if you lived in Franklin, Mt.J, Hermitage, or Hendersonville. That's not to say that you can't find jobs in any of the cities you wish to live in; however, you are likely to find more jobs in the Midtown/W End areas.

Thanks for the info. I feel like the beauty of nursing is the job availability. I think this is a good starting point for us to look more into it. And yes, the schools are important to us.

Any idea How is traffic around is around these areas? How is the weather year round?

Traffic...again depends on where you're commuting to. If your commute is to/from your home to an office in one of these suburbs, then it's easy. 10-20 mins tops most likely. To/from Nashville...is a bit trickier. I'd guesstimate rush hour commute from the interstate exit of each of them as follows: Franklin - 40 mins, Mt. Juliet - 40/45 mins, Hermitage - 30 mins, Hendersonville - 40/45 mins.

Weather - we get 4 distinct seasons here. Winter is moderate compared to the north or midwest, but we do get some days/weeks of bitter cold. Snow happens and even a little bit will pretty much shut the city down as we don't have the equipment to remove it...plus we tend to get ice first, then snow, which makes driving these hills virtually impossible. Typical winter day is 45/25. Spring starts around mid March usually and peaks in late April/early May. Summers are longer and have higher humidity than the north and midwest. Mid June-September. The dog days are in late July-August when the heat is truly oppressive. Fall is nice but brief (though this year it certainly wasn't).

You might also want to check out Murfreesboro. St Thomas Hospital is there and a number of other smaller rehab centers, etc. The schools are pretty good from what I've heard and housing costs are probably cheaper than some other areas.
