We're wanting to get out of CA to get *away* from the ultra liberal mindset, and thought TN would be a great place to retire. However, I haven't been to TN in a long time, and it looks like the Nashville area has become a hotbed area for feminists, hipsters and ultra libs (which is fine - to each their own, but I don't want to live in the middle of it).

Is Franklin any better?

Thanks!

Is Nashville super liberal?

No. The city leans moderate-left. The burbs lean moderate-right to very-right.

That said, it's a fairly large city. You can find just about any crazy ideology to suit your fancy.

In no particular order... Brentwood, Mt. Juliet, Hendersonville, most of Franklin, then Spring Hill, Smyrna, Lebanon, Dickson. Then Murfreesboro... but all of the above are mostly conservative. If you need any guidance, just look at who represents the city/county in the state house. Williamson and Wilson are deep red... Sumner and Rutherford are red... Davidson is blue. Don't know about the rest.

No, Nashville is not super liberal. Sure you can find some snowflakes at Vanderbilt. You can tell somewhat by the state legislators if a state senator is Republican but a state rep may be Democrat. If you go by Congressman Cooper he tends to be less liberal than any from SF. The other D Congressman comes from Memphis. Everyone else is Republican. If you really want to avoid crazy liberals you could try Knoxville or Chattanooga in east TN

Is Franklin any better?

Marsha Blackburn hails from Brentwood & Franklin. Diane Black hails from Mt Juliet & Lebanon.

What you will like is 1) no state income tax. 2) soon no state investment income tax

There are liberals in Knoxville, Chattanooga & Johnson city as well. Of these a certain percent might be considered "crazy". Depends on your definition, I suppose.

Vanderbilt is still a fairly conservative university for being elite as it is. It is not as liberal as Emory, Duke or any of the Ivy's.
