New job in brentwood, moving
I may be taking a new job in Brentwood and moving my wife & daughter to the area.
Where could we buy a home for less than 150,000 that is safe and has decent education? I will commute to Brentwood if I need to.
Thanks !!!

Ha, well no doubt you will be commuting to Brentwood if you're looking for a 150k house
You'll have a hard time finding a condo for that amount around that area. When you throw the kids/education thing in there, that's where it gets tough. Good Davidson County (nashville) schools are hard to find and I doubt you'll find anything in your price range zoned to a Williamson County school. You might look around Bellevue, I heard the Hillwood High isn't too bad(that's the HS my house is zoned for). Also, look for an area zoned for John Overton highschool (which is just north of Brentwood), maybe around Edmonson Pike/Old Hickory Blvd (Nippers Corner). That might be an option for an older home.

Ok so, a 30-60 minute commute to Brentwood should help some. We would actually prefer to be away from the congestion (nashville) as much as possible.
Any thoughts?

That's a tough one...I just looked on the MLS and 160k south of town (I wouldn't want to commute from north or east of nashville down to brentwood) will pretty much only get you something in Antioch (you DON'T want to be there)...if you can bump the budget up to $200k, there are some houses in Franklin (in williamson county) which will get you better schools and a fairly reasonable commute to Brentwood...west side of Murfreesboro might be an option at $150ish though, schools are good but the commute to Brentwood is probably about 40 min. or so during rush hr. Also, Fairview, TN is in Williamson County and housing is reasonable there, it's a bit out from Nashville and not congested for the time being (can't say how it will be in the future, I expect it to grow since it's in Williamson and that's a desirable county)...you could drive up Hwy 100 from Fairview and cross over to Brentwood on Old Hickory Blvd for work.

As scottv pointed out, you won't be able to find anything near Brentwood for $150k. I don't think we can point you in a specific area to look (at least I can't), but you might be able to find something south of Brentwood in the area between I-65 and I-24 in one of the more out-of-the-way communities. If you're willing to make up to an hour commute, you can probably find something, but you'll probably need to look at the individual listings until you find something that meets all your needs.

Spring Hill is south of Brentwood by a bit. It will be a 20-30 minute commute from Brentwood. However, a few years ago you would better be able to find something under $150k, but the lowest end is really $200k now.

Part of Spring Hill is in Williamson County, and you MIGHT be able to find a very modest townhome there for $150K. But the commute to and from Brentwood on I-65 is BRUTAL even on a good day.
If I were in your shoes, I would look in Mt. Juliet. The commute is not as bad as you might think (30-45 minutes) and Wilson County Schools are much better than Metro and just a cut below Williamson. Growing area and a great place to raise a family.
