Default Cross Plains & White House?

We just spent the last 5 days touring many different areas around Nashville. Great City! I would just like ANY input (pros & cons) anyone has on Cross Plains & White House. And if there is anyone living there now, that has just moved there from another state, how do you like it? We have many factors involved in our move, so I'm looking for any advice you have to offer. Thanks for your input!

I can't tell you too much about Cross Plains, but White House is in two counties, Sumner and Robertson, divided by the freeway.
It's a nice enough area, friendly people, close to Nashville, reasonable housing.
We didn't really like the fact that it was divided, and some of the area is very hilly.
My dad lives there. He lives on the Robertson side, and lives in a very hilly area.

I'd suggest that you come for a visit and just drive around.
Check out both areas.
You can only see so much in a picture, you can see more if you visit.

We originally wanted to move to Springfield. It had everything that we wanted in a town. Really friendly people.
We came to visit and it's a wonderful town, but we didn't like all of the hilly areas. We like an area where it's more flat.

We drove around to a lot of places and the last one was Portland.
We absolutely fell in love with the area.
Having lived in Idaho, the area was flat with farmland, and reminded us so much of Idaho.
We visited the Chamber of Commerce, talked to the locals, and drove all over the place checking it out.

Our next step will be a return visit with more exploring.

Talk to people, listen to the good and the bad, and then decide what is best for you.

Actually White House is divided by a state highway (31 W), not by the interstate. Most of the industrial and businesses are located on the Robertson County side. White House has substantial city taxes, and the sewer in the White House are is high as has been posted here before. The area is nice and the costs of homes are climbing. There is a new Walmart that just opened a few days ago near the intererstate exit. With that, the growth will boom. There are already several fast food places and a Cracker Barrell Restaurant, two or three hotels and many banks in the area. The school system is divided by which part of White House you live in, Sumner or Robertson. There is a brand new high school for the Robertson County side in the works but it will be a while before it is complete. The Sumner County side is the more long-standing high school and has a long history. There is a city park where things happen for both counties and the Chamber of Commerce works hard to pull the city together. There has been political controversy play out between the police chief and the city manager, and now there is a new Chief of police in town. It's a nice town that some prefer, while I've heard of others leaving because it is no longer the small town they prefer. There is a BIG house market in White House. I drove through Holly Tree subdivision the other day and it seemed like almost everyone is selling. Not good to see so many people moving out.

Cross Plains is pure country. Not much there except a quite little town. If you are looking for a place to look at the stars and not have the glow of city lights block your view, this would be the place. A handful of stores, one red light and the heart of town is not really that close to the interstate. But it is a slow-pace town...not far from Portland, White House or Franklin KY. I've considered CP myself.

I'd say it depends on where you are moving from. I live in Cottontown which is like Cross Plains in that it's more spread out. I hear people in White House saying it's getting overcrowded, but I don't feel that way coming from Connecticut/New York. I first looked in White House but happened to find a home in another town that was exactly what we were looking for. I don't consider it very hilly as I thought Connecticut was more hilly than this.

I think the best thing is to visit and see for yourself. A very nice super walmart did open in White House. Unless I'm doing some shopping at Krogers just down the road from it, I will probably still go to Kentucky for cheaper sales tax and no tax on food. With the shopping I do, it's worth going there.

Thanks for your responses! We were there last week and for 3 days drove everywhere from Cross Plains all the way to Franklin and tried to hit everytown in between. I was really disappointed that I didn't find a little town with more of a "town square". Cross Plains seems to be my first choice. It is smaller but yet I see a lot of new homes being built which to me means potential for the town to grow but yet still have the beautiful countryside. What do you think about the town growing? Will it take off quickly and then be overcrowded in 5-10 years? Does anyone have children that go to C.P schools? My kids will be in 1st & 6th grades next year. They are very active in everything from dance, gymnastics, soccer, music and basket ball. This is a huge move for us because all of our family is here in Michigan. (Actuallly in the same town) So thanks for the input. Keep it coming!

Actually the schools in Cross Plains will be known as "East Robertson" (Indians is their mascot). The potential for growth in the Cross Plains area is big but some people feel it is "too far out" of the Nashville area, but with growth everywhere in Tennessee the growth is spreading through the outer lying area quickly. Some towns are getting crowded with all of the building space taken up near the hearts of towns. That's what I like about Cross Plains is that there is a little more "fresh air" out there where the houses are not yet packed into tight subdivisions. You're likely to find more acreage there than in White House. My nieces attend dance in White House @ Dancesouth, and I'm sure there are music lessons to be found too. Soccer is big in White House as well and kids from other areas come to sign up with the White House leagues. As far as basketball, East Robertson schools will have that too. I do believe though there are only two schools in Cross Plains, with no middle school. I may be mistaken but I think it's only K-6 and 7-12. It is not a big school so you may like that.
