I know how you feel! When I first moved to France, as much as I loved it there and as warm and welcoming as the people were, I really missed being able to speak good ol' American English.

Have you been to Beethoven's Bistro on West Broad? It's run by an Austrian fellow named Helmuth. And the Alpine Lodge on East Spring Street is run by another Austrian couple. At least I think they're Austrian, they might actually be German.

Also, you might want to call the foreign languages department at the university (or check their web site: Foreign Languages @ TTU ) and talk to their German professors. I know in the past Tennessee Tech has had German exchange students periodically. In fact, I met one who was there a year ago.

The university has a German club which meets weekly for German conversations:
German Club

Good luck!

Default Cookeville

What brought you to Cookeville? My family moved here in 1996 when my children were 2 and 3.5 years old. We moved here from Illinois. Before that, we lived in Wisconsin. Nice there, but too cold. Do you like it here? Where did you live in Germany?
