That's going to be something of a difficult question for anyone to answer unless they've lived in the area. There doesn't seem to be too many nice apartment complexes in the area (I go by there, but I don't live in the area). There are a number of small houses in that general area and you might consider renting one of those. You might also look in the Germantown area with is relatively close to MeHarry; they're built quite a few new residential developments in the area, and renovated some older buildings.

Your best bet might be to contact someone in the student services office at MeHarry and see if they can provide you with any leads.

Sorry I can't help you more.

Oh, and congratulations for getting into medical school. I hope everything works out for you.

Use apartmentselector.com they help a great deal. I went through this agency when looking to find an apartment to relocate to the Nashville area. Where you choose will ultimately depend on your personal preferences

Most every university/college has a student housing department. They should be able to provide good information.

You could certainly use Royal Towers, which I believe is the corner of Albion and 21st. It's student housing, and a little pricey for the neighborhood, but on campus. Any other apartments in walking distance will be much smaller buildings--I've seen a few buildings in the area with 10 units or so, but most rentals in the area are duplexes/triplexes. Most of these are cheap, but they look it, and they might not meet your definition of safe. I'd say that crime is low enough, but Meharry is definitely smack-dab in the middle of a low income neighborhood, so some areas are a little run-down. With that said, there are a lot of nice homes where you might be able to rent a room. craigslist.org is a good resource if you were to go the roommate route. I live a couple blocks from Meharry, so feel free to ask if you're curious about a specific location.
