We will be arriving in Portland around the middle of April and I am going to be in the market for a 1/2 Ton Pick-up 4x4 1999 or newer. What fees can I expect to encounter? If I buy from a Dealer? Or what fees can I expect if I buy from a private dealer? Will the car have to be smogged? and who is responsible for getting it down? Also can you recommend any dealers that would be close to Portland? I prefer GM products.......

Thanks for your time Lee

By living in Sumner county you will have to have an emissions test the next time you renew the car/truck tags. It's around $10. Certain trucks are exempt from the test; a 1/2 ton pick-up might be (I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it is).

When you buy it you will have to pay for license registration, and sales tax. A reputable dealer will take care of all of this for you. You might want to visit the Tennessee government website to familiar yourself with just what the tax is on a car purchase and the registration fee.
