I really want to move to Nashville!! I want a place to call home and start a family. From what I've read and from the time I've spent in Nashville I am certain that this is a place where my fiance and I can settle down and begin a new life together. Our only problem - We need to find jobs in order to move there. I'm having a hard time because it seems no one wants to deal with an out of state candidate. Does anyone have any recommendation of where to look or an agency that works with people that do not yet live in the area? I live in Norfolk, VA right now and have a full time job here, which makes it hard to fly out for interviews.
I have seen that a lot of people on here moved from somewhere else so I thought it would be a great place to ask and you could share your story on how you got here or offer any tips. I appreciate any help! (I have a BBA in Accounting and about 7 years experience) Thanks, Erin |

Hi Erin80-
Will you let me know anything you find out? I will keep on checking back at your post. My boyfriend and I are wanting to move to TN too. We both do not have a job lined up and would like to have one before we move. My boyfriend has called a handful of places and he has received some negative feedback because he lives out of state. It is hard for me to go down there for an interview as well. I am hoping that some places can do a phone interview. Good Luck!!! |

depending how far away from Nashville you actually are, I'd get a local mailing address at one of those mail/shipping stores and nashville cell phone number. Then you'll look "local" even if you aren't. Also are you working with any headhunters?

In Acctg, headhunters are the key in this region. Also, many spots, even senior level, go temp-to-perm route often, usually 3 months, as agency fee nosedives after 90 days/520 billable hours.
I came to TN w/o a job first 10 years ago; have permed the last 9.5 plus years, and at >250% best rate of my home state, Ct, with much lower cost of living (last 4). Can you save a "reserve" and come down temping at first? Temp work, with 7 yrs experience, will come very quickly. I was temping via Robert Half/Olsten Financial within 10 days of coming to Nashville. Perm job, started as temp spot, within 6 weeks of arrival. Our unemp was lower than, but still around 4%..quite good. |
