Default murfreesboro

My husband and I are considering moving to the Rutherford county area. We have elementary and high school children. My husband is in law enforcement and I am in the healthcare field. We have lived in Champaign,Il and Macon,Georgia. We are looking for a fresh start in a safe community to raise our family. We visited Murfreesboro and loved it! Are there any other areas in Rutherford Co. that we should consider?

If you're looking to stay in Rutherford County, Murfreesboro is certainly a great option, but I'd also check out Smyrna in Rutherford County as well. It has been growing lately also and is just a little bit closer to Nashville so it's easily accessible to both Murfreesboro and Nashville. It is not too far from J Percy Priest Lake if you are interested in lakes or boating. For you, you might be interested in the new Stonecrest Medical Center they have there in Smyrna. It's nice and depending on what you do in healthcare, it may be an employment consideration for you. Good luck in your decision!

My folks and I just returned from a three day trip to Murfreesboro and we too were very impressed, the people were wonderful and although I didn't get into Smyrna, I found M'boro to be such a great place with easy access to just about everything. I was also quite fond of the Blackman area... their was a good bit of construction going on so I take it good things are on the way. That's most likely the area I'd want to call home some day... if it remains somewhat rural, who knows. I look forward to returning one day.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call Murfreesboro safe. There is quite a bit of crime there. They do have gang problems, too. It is the fastest growing area in the state so it will likely only get worse. More people means more crime. I have three young children and I wouldn't live in Murfreesboro. The commute is also awful if you work in Nashville, although both of you could likely find employment in Murfreesboro. There are plenty of other places in the Middle Tennessee area that are closer to your needs and where you would likely be happier in the long run. Take your time and poke around for a while. This is a rapidly growing area so take that into consideration as well. If a place is large and crowded, it will be exponentially more large and crowded in ten years.

I don't want to be a downer because I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it is an honest assessment. It's quite easy to overlook the negatives when you are excited about moving to a new place. Been there, done that

tokdl,

I moved to Murfreesboro from Florida 7 months ago and I love it here. No place is crime free and I haven't seen anything here. I travel all over this area and it has very safe feel.Trust me, coming West Palm Beach FL, I would know the difference. The people here are very friendly and down to earth. There a lot of great neigborhoods as well. It's very family oriented and you can work and play here. You really don't have to travel too far for anything. I'm sure you could find local employment here and not have to comute to Nashville or anywhere else. I actually ended up in Murfreesboro by a last minute change in my work transfer. I was supposed to go to Spring Hill, instead I was transferred here and my husband also ended up being recruited from Florida here as well, so it worked out perfect. It really is a nice area to live in. I could not be happier with my experience here.

Perspective, I guess. There most certainly is plenty of crime there. Is there as much as West Palm or Miami? No. But then, south Florida has more crime than a LOT of places. I could post a ton of articles to prove my point but my suggestion is to do your due diligence.

SouthernStar, personally, I enjoyed the entire time their, we did look for the more run down areas, just to see how bad things can be, still not certain if we saw them all or not. Compare the crime rate in M'boro / Rutherford county, and the crime rate in New Orleans, LA.; from capital murder to misdemeanors, while your at it... compare the cost of living, focusing on real estate as well, you'll see why M'boro in my opinion has more positives than negatives, I'm sure a lot of places do. It really boils down to where an individual is coming from and what their looking to achieve. You have your hang ups about M'boro just like I have mine about my location. There's nothing wrong with that.

Kim... I remember our short e mail exchange, I now know why you love it, and I agree, their is no place free of crime. I felt the same way you did about the places we visited, even at 1:30 am out and about trying to find dinner, I felt very safe. That's not to say I'd make a habit of that. We plan on making several more short trips like the last one within a two year period to truly confirm this is a place worthy of settling.

I'm set to move to M'boro on April 5th. I love the small town feel of the area, even though it is a town of 80K+. Everyone was friendly where I went and I felt at home in a short period of time. In my situation, I have an advantage as my boyfriend has lived there for over 20 years, so he can direct me to the good areas and away from the bad.

One big plus - they have SONIC! Sorry, I gush about that as we have no Sonics here in NY

I have one right across the street from me and have never been. I have to try this place.
I was thrilled when I saw White Castle. It's a NY novelty for me.
