Default Opinions on a few areas

Hi,

Just a quick question for everyone on the board. I just received a job offer at Vanderbilt, and will be moving in early June. I'm trying to stick within 5-6 miles of the campus (I just hate driving.....) and within a budget of less than 200k. I know it will be tough, but there are a few options. There are two areas that keep popping up as options.

The first area is just north of 40 and E of 155 (or just look here What is this area called? Can't seem to find that. Moderator cut: cut exact location

The second area, I believe, is called Green Hills. I've been looking at some places in this area Moderator cut: cut exact location HILLSBORO PIKE Nashville TN 37215

I just wanted to get some general info on these areas- in terms of what types of folks live there, vibe, safety, etc. I know there isn't much in immediate walking distance from the places, but they're affordable and close enough to the Vandy area.

Thanks so much!

Rule out Georgia Avenue; it's almost certainly not the area you're looking for . . . unless you like living close to a giant Interstate cloverleaf ramp. That Google satellite image is old, by the way.

Green Hills is an upscale area. $200K will be at the very lowest end of the price range in Green Hills (if at all). Did you actually find a house listed at that address in Green Hill for $200K?

Some other areas that might be worth your while to search in are Hillsboro Village, Belmont, and Sylvan Park. It might still be tough to find something in your price range in those areas, but it's possible with a little patience and effort I believe. Some of the real estate agents on here could tell you for sure.

Thanks for the info.

There are a few condos in the area that are basically right at 200k. They all have really high condo fees though ($300 and up).

Of the two area's you mentioned, Green Hills is the better choice. But don't let the driving issue "drive your choice". Driving here is congested for a couple of hours in the morning and evening, but it's nothing like it is in larger cities. If you want some natural ambiance, versus city ambiance, look south and west. Bellevue has some nice spaces in your price range. If you want city ambiance there are some condo's on the river downtown in your price range. You have lots of good choices.

Could you point me to any of the downtown condos? I would definitely be interested, I guess I just haven't come across any in my search so far.

Thanks!

You might want to check out the condos around the Midtown (Vanderbilt) area first. They have built a bunch of them in the past few years and with the somewhat depressed housing market you might be able to get a good deal.

My buddy lives there and loves it. You can walk to downtown if you're into the nightlife thing. They have covered parking and I've never heard of any crime or break-ins.

Stay away from Georgia Avenue. Sylvan Park, which is across I-40, is a decent neighborhood, but Georgia I would consider to be more in the TSU area, and that is crime city.
