Hi,
My husband and I are planning to move to Nashville. We will be wanting to rent a house in nashville, and hopefully buy in a year if we like it there. We are a young newly wed couple and don't plan on having kids for a couple of years. We want a SAFE area and not out far from downtown like Franklin or out in the country area.

Please see if what I have heard is correct:

Avoid Antioch
Avoid North Nashville

What about:
Bellevue, Green Hills, East nashville?

And please, any other areas to recommend would be such a help!!! Once we have more ideas, we are going to visit.

My wife and I are moving to Nashville as well. We were just there a few days ago looking for a rental. Depending on your price range and what type of housing you are looking for will make a big difference. We found a great place in Thompson Station, but yes Franklin/Spring hill would be further from downtown.

-Try the "nipers corner" area for an apartment rental, it is around Old hickory road and Edmonson pike in brentwood.
-Brentwood is a great area.
-Bellevue will offer a similar look to nipers corner, I think.
-We found a pretty neat neighborhood in Berry Hill. Cute homes in a close to downtown location.
-Yes, stay away from Antioch. We also thought Woodbine, close to the zoo, was undesirable.

Hope that helps. Good Luck

Bellevue isn't really "close in" to downtown, but it's a fairly easy commute to downtown as well as to the West End area, Green Hills, Brentwood, Franklin, etc. I commute from Bellevue to MetroCenter (northwest of downtown), and, since I don't go at peak rush hour traffic, it takes me 20 minutes in the morning and about 25 minutes in the afternoon.

It's one of the safest areas in Metro Nashville. There's a huge park nearby, as well as the Natchez Trace Parkway (run by the National Park Service). Besides fast food places, there's only a handful of nicer restaurant in Bellevue; but, as I mentioned, it's an easy drive in to where there are.

Green Hills is a nice area as well. Traffic is a little congestated on the main artery streets there and it's a little pricery, but it might be more like what you're looking for.

I would check out what would be considered some of the more hip locations since you do not have children and schools to worry about, this would give you a great experience while you check out the rest of the city for your hopeful purchase. In order I would look at Hillsboro Bellmont (higher because of competition from college kids), Historic East Nashville (near 5 points would be best), Germantown, and lastly West End / Sylvan Park. These are great urban neighborhoods where you can find coffee shops, restaurants, bars, parks etc sometimes within walking distance of your home. Good luck and welcome to Nashville!!
