Hendersonville vs Gallatin?
Hi - just joined the forum and this has been a great tool learning about your fine state. Fun to read and learn! THX!
If this was posted before please forgive me, but need to ask you "experts" up there about these two areas. My wife and I are wanting to move to your area and we were told to check out these areas. We plan to this JULY and wondered, before we arrive ,if you all could give us some tid-bits about these areas....or are they so close (proximity) that there are no differences.
Here is what we are looking for: good shopping, maybe a mall, but really would like a Publix, (if possible), B of A, oh and my wife has to have a Panera. Ok so we are not the pickiest folks in the world, but we also would like to have some land to spread our wings. We are motorcyclists (trials and dual purpose) - not wild people, that is for sure, but like to get out and see some scenery. We are MSF instructors (motorcycle safety foundation, in case you did not know what that meant so we are NOT wildies!) So any input about these areas would be greatly appreciated. THX!

It sounds like Hendersonville has more of what you are looking for. It has Publix, Panera and a new shopping area (not a mall per say, but an outdoor shopping plaza with a small town feel). The real estate prices in Gallatin are a little less, but we chose Hendersonville because of the feel...so you will have to check out both.

I would say Hendersonville. If you have school age kids definitely Hendersonville.

No school children - does it seem to be acreages available there? Not gated but not really "far out" rural... if that makes sense. Like to find 5-10 acres max.....or at least a 2 acre lot. Thanks guys! Hendersonville sounds great and so does Gallatin. Heard it is really growing though, too - is it growing TOO FAST? Being from FL that is what happened here. Too much growth - way too fast. We have family who live near Waverly but that seems to be too far out for us....we like services to be nearby.

I also lived in Florida...and yes it is growing quickly. As far as the acreage, have you thought about White House, Portland, Bethpage or Westmoreland. They are further out, but you are more likely to get the acreage.

I live off Gallatin Rd. between Hendersonville and Gallatin near Volunteer State Community College. This is a really nice area. I'm about 5 - 10 minutes away from the new outdoor mall in Hendersonville and 5 minutes away from a new shopping complex across from Vol State which has a Publix grocery store. There is a new stadium seating movie theater both behind Publix and at the new mall in Hendersonville. There is a Panera Bread in the Glenbrook Shopping Center in Hendersonville and also near Books-A-Million near Rivergate Mall in Goodlettsville. Since you're wanting a buy some land along with your house, you might want to checkout lots/homes for sale off Long Hollow Pike which runs just west of both Hendersonville and Gallatin.
I grew up in Hendersonville and my grandmother lived in Waverly. I used to visit her all the time. It's takes a little over an hour and a half to travel from Hendersonville to Waverly. Taking Briley Parkway may make the drive a little faster since it by-passes downtown Nashville traffic and gets you over to 1-40.

Wow thanks everyone! My wife is ready to pack!
We plan to come up in SEPT to check this all out. Panera and Publix right near each other? She will think that is HEAVEN!
Also thanks for the ideas of the land issue. We are debating about renting a home for a year to make sure of the areas. Your words on here have helped us to pin-point it a bit more - thanks again. We did that when we moved to FL which was really smart. (rent first) We thought, notice I said THOUGHT, we wanted to be near Orlando but that was way out of our price league back then that we rented in a smaller town outside (about 45 miles) and fell in love with that MORE than Orlando area anyway. Thank heavens.

Hi! Well, I can't answer all of your questions however, I can tell you that your wife will have NO PROBLEM finding employment. Bi-lingual in the medical field is very much in demand. The payscale is much lower here than in NY. I am originally from North Jersey. However, the cost of living is much lower here than in NY.
Sorry I couldn't help you out more than that. Best of luck to you both!

If you're looking to buy acreage ON Long Hollow Pike, be ready to write a hefty check. That is a quickly growing area with BIG homes going up. You may be able to get some space off of the Pike, but Sumner County "ain't cheap"...good luck.
