Default Murfreesboro?

My wife, myself, and our son that is soon to be born are most likely going to be moving to Murfreesboro, TN in July or August. I will be going to MTSU as a graduate student. I am going to be heading out there in May or June to check things out and find a place to live. If anyone could give us some ideas of places (apartments or small houses) for rent that would be great. The cheaper the better as we will be very poor. We would like to be reasonably close to the university as well as be in a place that is safe for my wife to take our son out for a walk whenever she wants. Also, if there is anyone who is LDS on here that could let us know about the ward there (meeting time, demographics of members, etc) that would be so wonderful. I am excited to move out east as I have always lived in the west (currently in Idaho), and I really appreciate any advice that can be given. Thanks!

Don't do it!!! Many people who move there are changed in a bad way. My sister moved down there and now she thinks that she is better than everyone else. It's a very smugg place to live in my opinion. Plus, traffic is horrible and drug and gang activity has been rising steadily there. Also, living expenses there are very high. The fact that there is a college located in Murfreesboro makes traffic even worse, particularly drunk drivers and stuff like that.

bcd1,

Murfreesboro is a very nice and family oriented small city and of course, there are plenty of college students as well. I have lived here for 7 months now and am very happy with my experience. I have never heard of Murfreesboro described as a "smug place to live" before, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have met a lot of nice, friendly, hard working people here and don't feel an air of smugness in this area at all. It's very affordable, clean and a very self contained area with a very safe feel. You have all that you need here as far as shopping and restaurants.

You asked about apartments and there are plenty of them here for sure. I don't know what your price point is for rent so I will just go off my experience when I moved here and rented for awhile. I lived in Woodgate Farm Apartments and was very happy there. They are on the west side of Murfreesboro on St. Andrews Drive. The apartments are only a few years old, very clean (no bugs) and the property is very well maintained. The office staff was great as well, very friendly. I paid $735 for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. It was a nice size apartment and the bathrooms were huge! There was a nice mix of famlies, college students and even some senior residents as well. It was quiet and had great amenities. Gym, swimming pool, billard room, playground and internet cafe. AS I said, I don't know your budget for rent, but I would highly recommend those apartments. You can walk anywhere around that area. I have a friend that rented on the northside of town. Northfield I believe. She will be paying $650 for a 2/2 and I could ask her the name of the property if you are interested.

I don't know anything about LDS sorry.
Good Luck with your move, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Will you be a GTA at MTSU? Just curious.

For affordable, fairly safe places, I would look at some of the townhomes off of old Lascassas Pike, near Greenland Drive. Streets would include Middleborough Ct and Center Point Dr.

Hi,
My daughter is a student at Mtsu, finishing up her freshman year. There are apartments on the other side of town that may cost less than right near the campus. I was told this one was good---http://www.paddockclubtheboro.com/s/homepage
My daughter will be staying at The Woods next semester on Greenland. Her's is individual leases and furnished, but they said they also rent to families.
There are pleny of houses to rent around the Campus. Electric in TN is cheap compaired to most places if that is what the heat is.
By LDS-Do you mean Church of the Later Day Saints? They do have one fairly close to campus. A friend of my daughters goes there. Demograpics are probably a lot of college students.
I find Murfreesboro Safe. I'm sure you will enjoy it there.
Diane G

Thanks for all the help so far.
Mike: Yes I will be a GTA at MTSU. Why's do you ask?
Kim918: I would love to know the name of where your friend lives. As far as cheap or innexpensive we will probably be wanting to pay as close to $600/month as possible.
Thanks for your help, and keep it coming!

I think this is the one. If it isn't I will post again. At any rate this one looks very nice with a $610 starting rent for 2/2.

My friend, just messaged me back. It is Northfield Commons. She went and looked at them. She is a single girl, living alone and she loved them so she took it. She said they were clean and the area was really nice. I read the ratings for these apartments, there were only two opinions posted, but both were very positive. Hope this helps.

Just curious; I'm finished up there this month.

Keepin' it real, $610 won't get you anything fancy, but it doesn't sound like you need all of that. You can probably rule out like the Paddock Club and anything in the Cason Lane/St. Andrews area. They are too far from MTSU anyway.

I found this page, If you see anything that looks good, I'll do a passby on Friday. I'm going to the "Boro" to have lunch with my daughter who is a student ay MTSU. I live in Nashville, so only a 45min drive.
