But wouldn't the same body that made Wal-Mart (across the street, basically) modify its design approve or deny Chuy's? WHat changed?

Go to La Hacienda on Nolensville Road, trust me. You can also find some authentic Mexican food through the mobile vendors on the major corridors (Nolensville Rd, Mufreeboro Pike, Charlotte Ave...). Just make sure to check for bones when eating anything with chicken in it. If your ever in East Nashville, check out Matty's Bar and Grill across from NADC. Doesn't look like it would have authentic Mexican food, but they do. It used to be a Mexican Restaurant now it's a music venue, bar and grill. Pretty sure they kept some of the staff from the former place. Had a excellent beef tongue taco there the other day.

La Hacendia or Le Terraza are my favorites, especially Le Terraza on Murfreesboro Pike, it's very authentic, food is always good, and the prices are extremley reasonable.

Has anyone tried Chuy's? I have been there a couple times and not really impressed. It is decent but there is nothing that makes me want to come back for more. -Steve

Which places have you tried? I'll admit Nashville has some gross Mexican food...I couldn't even eat my dinner at Cozymels in Franklin the one and only time I ate there, but Nashville has some good places. You just got to go explore.

I have zero experience with west coast style mexican food. But, my guess is that the Lopez Tacos y Mariscos restaurants are pretty close to authentic. Each and every time I have ever eaten at one, there have been way more latinos than gringos eating there (a clue, lol). Lopez #3 is on gallatin rd. in Madison. Lopez #2 is on murfreesboro rd. And Lopez #1 is on nolensville rd. Me gusta mucho!!
Regards,
TB
