Still looking to move to TN!
I am thinking that there will be more opportunities in Nashville area for my husbands work. (Territory Sales- Hard Surface Flooring)I would really like to start fresh in TN and get away from South Florida asap. Is there anywhere one could live in the outskirts (kinda country) that we could get a very cheap home with some land? I am talking aroung 100,000. I have seen some manufactured and mobile homes on realtor.com for these prices and they don't look to bad. Say like one in Franklin. I know Franklin is considered very good, but are there bad areas too? I just want to get to TN, so I am not looking for a dream home right now. I just want something that will put me there and then I can find the right house after a while. I just need to be in a safe area, since I have a daughter in elementary. What about Columbia and Hohenwald? It could be around 30 min. to 1 hour away. Even if I don't get land, just a decent home in a safe family area would be good. Thanks for any advice.

In Franklin, I doubt you can get anything for that price.
In Columbia, you can, Holenwald is quite a distance out. I would not go furthur out that Columbia.

One other suggestion is smyrna, tn

If it were me, I'd rent a house for six months or a year before buying one. You're going to want some time to feel out the area before you commit yourself to a specific location...or at least, that's how I feel about it.

Ok, how about 200,000 range? I really want something that feels like the country. And I want to have children around for my 10 yr old and a nice safe area.

You may want to look in the Dickson area - far enough west but not too far from Nashville. Just moved to TN myself and that's what I'm seeing. My job is west so I've not looked east of Nashville.

Stay away from Columbia
Just a personal bias, but I went to high school in Columbia, and my parents still live in the area. Columbia is really just not growing and is very stuck in its ways. The schools aren't great, and it used to be known as the 'cocaine capital of TN'. Also, just think a parade of asses down main street every years. Seriously, its called Mule Day and it reeks of the Old South. Anyway, look at Spring Hill. My brother just bought a nice 3bd/2.5 bth, with about 3 acres for around 130k. He had to do some work, but the home values will only go up as the Franklin/Brentwood/Nashville sprawl continues south. Also look at Thompson Station, its right between Franklin and Spring Hill. I don't know too much more about the other communities, but TN home prices are generally around the cheapest in the nation, even around Nashville it isn't too bad. You may not get a lot of land, but the house is still pretty nice. Good Luck.

Hohenwald is VERY RURAL but you can most definitely find something for under $150K. There are only about 12000 people that live in the county, and it lacks any major development at all. But the cost of living is low, land is cheap (about $7000 an acre out of town), crime rate is low, and it is definitely country. If your husband wants to find work, you are probably gonna have to travel to Columbia (45000 pop) for that, which is about a 40 minute drive from Hohenwald. You should give it a look.

I would consider White House in Sumner County or Greenbrier/Ridgetop area of Robertson Co.
