With any builders the key is to be very involved in the building of your home. Go there daily, you have keep on them constantly.

First post on these forums!

I'm also thinking about buying a Centex home in Hendersonville. My biggest concerns so far are their use of slab over crawlspace (just not something you see too often here in Mid TN), their stingyness on customization (c'mon...19'6 X 19'6 for a garage in an upper-scale neighborhood?), and my fear that they'll cut lots of corners to pump out a house. The people seem extremely nice and other friends we have that have bought in the subdivision have had good experiences. I guess I'm more concerned with the quality of my house 10 years from now after the warranty is long gone.

Maybe northern middle TN is different, but most all new construction I see being built here in Murfreesboro is on slab. I don't know if it has to do with the terrain or if it's a cost issue. I've seen very few newer homes that are on crawl space.

That's good to know. It's pretty hilly in Northern Middle TN, which lends itself to drainage issues. But the land Centex is building on seems very flat and it looks to be well-graded. Part of the other concern is if pipes burst or there are plumbing/electrical issues. Slab is a little tougher to access in those cases. But if it's an industrywide move to slab, it's not something you can really get around, you know?
