Default Relocating to Nashville

Hi All

My husband and I are relocating to Nashville, TN. How's the job market in Nashville? I work in the field of accounting and I was wondering if I can find a job there. I am not familiar with the place but would like to try something out there. We like to settle in lower cost of living area, safe and peaceful. Please share your opinions as to give me some idea where to apply for a job.

Thanks

The economy is relatively strong here in Nashville.

I don't work in the accounting field so I don't know whether there's a shortage or an overage of qualified personnel here, but there are all sorts of companies around Nashville, from small to very large. If I were you, rather than just look at who might have an immediate opening, I would try to identify ten to twenty companies that I might want to work for and contact each of them by both phone (find out who is the best person to talk to) and letter (and preferably bypassing the HR department if the company has one).

Hi:

Thank you for the reply. Do you have any lists of companies around Nashville area? How's the costs of living there? Is it expensive?

I have all sorts of lists of companies from the Nashville Business Journal. Any particular type of company you're interested in?

The cost of living here is somewhat less than the national average, but then so is the overall level of wages. It's not cheap to live in Nashville, but it's certainly not as expensive as someplace like New York or San Francisco.

Default Thank You Alley

Hi:

Thanks for the reply. I would love to see all those lists of companies that you are talking. Do you have the website that I can visit to view all those stuff? I am fine to live in Nashville if the cost of living is lower than NY and SF. Again thank you for your guidance.

No, it's printed in an oversize "book" of about 250 pages. You can buy the book for about $35, I believe, on the Nashville Business Journal website. The lists are broken down into categories such as "Largest Employers in Nashville" and "Largest Accounting Firms" and "Largest Automotive Related Industries" and "Largest Engineering Firms", etc.

When I get lists for people I have to scan them in and then e-mail the lists to them. That's why I'm generally slow about doing it.

I don't know too much about the accounting field in Nashville, but my boyfriend is in that field and works for PWC in Cool Springs. All four of the "Big Four" accounting firms (PWC, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG) have branches in Nashville...although PWC's branch is smaller (their main branches are in Knoxville and Atlanta). Of course if you've been in the accounting field for awhile you might not want to work for one of the Big Four anymore...but the pay is good and so are the benefits!

Default Accounting

I do work in the Accounting Field and you should be able to find a job. There are several accounting firms in the area plus major corporations. Just do a search on monster.com. Try Dollar General (Goodlettsville area), Cracker Barrel (Lebanon area), Nissan (Smyrna and soon to be in Franklin area), Gaylord Entertainment (Opryland- Donelson airport area), Caterpillar (West End Downtown area), HCA (Downtown). These are just a few that I would check out.
