I'll vouch for Hendersonville's schools. As always, be careful when painting a whole county as ALL good or bad. I know of some crummy schools in both Sumner and Williamson and other counties. Having said that, there is a consistency of better schools in Brentwood and Hendersonville, as well as other parts. I think for the money, Hendersonville cannot be beat. Hendersonville HS sent several kids to the service academies as well as Vandy, Duke, Emory among others just last year. Several have gone to ivies in years past.

I think it would be a good idea to research schools by area on the website www.schoolmatters.com. The options of the replies shows that people have different options on what is important in a school and education. I have my own opinions and most would probably agree that your research and planning (like you are doing now) before you move will help your child tremendously in your child’s education.
I have an MBA and a finance undergraduate degree after attending some difficult schools in Florida while growing up. The most important thing I found was having good teachers and class sizes that were small to allow one on one interaction. I like the website above because they give the number of students per teacher along with math and reading scores which give a good indication of the quality of the school for every school by area. I’m sure you will do the research and be involved in your child’s education and your interaction with them will set them apart from other children. I hope you have a good weekend. Tony |

I can vouch for Brentwood's schools. I went to Crockett Elementary (first group of kids to go all the way through from kindergarten to 5th grade, woohoo!), Woodland Middle and Brentwood High School. My brothers both went to Crockett and Woodland, and they went to Ravenwood High School (didn't exist when I started high school). IMO the schools in Brentwood and in Williamson County as a whole are great. I can't speak for everyone but I feel that I got a great education here...I scored high enough on the ACT to get a full scholarship to UT-Knoxville, and I also went to Clemson University in South Carolina. Now I'm going to Belmont to get my nursing degree. And it all started with public schools in Williamson County! Actually when my parents moved here in the late 80's (back when there was no mall and Concord Road had two lanes), what made them choose Brentwood was the school system.
I've always thought it was goofy that parents in Williamson County will actually pay tuition to send their kids to private schools when the public ones are just as good. It's not like there's any riff-raff in Brentwood that you need to keep your kids away from or anything...private schools in Davidson County I can understand, but Williamson? I think the public schools here are great! |

Welcome fellow Tar Heels! I lived in Beaufort County N.C. (Aurora) for 21 years.
I moved back to Nashville in 1990. I was borned and raised here in Nashville. I did not leave too far from you guys in Kinston. My daughter lives in New Bern, and my son lives in Aurora. Tennessee is a great state. I live in Sumner County - Gallatin, Tn. I work in downtown Nashville, so I have a somewhat of a commute. The better paying jobs are in Nashville. I work 7am to 4 pm. The traffic is not too bad leaving in the morning, but sometimes (not always) the ride home can be lengthy. Wish you the best of luck, and if you get lonesome for people from N.C. just let me know, and we can chat. Again welcome to the Volunteer State. |

I saw on the news last night that Newsweek compiled a list of the top 1,300 public high schools in the U.S. and 2 from Davidson County were ranked within the top 25 while Brentwood was 187, that's not too bad, but it's always interesting to me how much perspective plays into this.
