Default Visiting the area in a few weeks (schools, sports, housing questions)

I posted this on the main Tenn board, but advised to post here as well:

We are coming to Tennessee in a few weeks. Mainly for a baseball tournament at Vanderbilt, but also because we are considering the area in a couple of years. We are planning to look at areas of interest, around Nashville.

Areas of interest: (in order of preference, right now, but could change)
Hendersonville
Murfreesboro
Possibly towns in between

I am liking the search results I've found for Indian Lake Elementary and Sumner County schools. I know that Spring Hill area has great schools too, but I've read that the drive to/from Nashville is just too far. We'd like to keep the drive to less than a half hour.

ETA: The company dh works for could possibly go to the Murfreesboro area, so that would cross Hendersonville off the list than, but for now we're planning on him being out of Nashville, until we get official word...

We are big in to baseball and so would like to hear about the youth sports programs in the areas we will visit.

We are looking for good strong schools - elementary through high school, good neighborhood to raise children and have things to do, we'd like to have a good sports program - since this is important to us and last, we'd like the commute to/from Nashville (more specifically Marriott Dr. area) to be less than a half hour. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, since my mind is a bit on overload with researching, getting ready for a busy baseball summer, etc...lol

We're excited to be coming to the area to have a look around. I know we'll be back a few more times before we finally settle there, in a couple years, so I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Thank you if you've gotten this far! lol

I would think Murfreesboro would be a longer trip to Nashville than Spring Hill and probably would take longer than you are specifying. But then again, if he ends up working in Murfreesboro, it would obviously be a great option for you. Another area right around Murfreesboro is Smyrna, which is also growing. It's a little closer to Nashville.

I'd also think, depending on where you are of course, that the time you drive from Spring Hill to Nashville and the time you drive from Hendersonville to Nashville would probably be around the same time. I've actually heard people say they preferred the Spring Hill commute over the Hendersonville commute, but I can't say which one is technically the best commute. I just say that simply because I don't know that the timing will be that much different in either area. However, both commutes are traffic filled at those rush hour times of day.

Really, I would think the Spring Hill to Nashville commute would take longer. I guess it really depends on exactly where the two destinations are.

I don't know much about youth baseball programs, but I can tell you that there are quite a few HS baseball teams in Rutherford County that are the real deal.

Last year's first round draft pick came from Blackman HS in Murfreesboro.

I agree with Mike (again...LOL). I do the drive everyday from Murfreesboro Nashville and I do not find it bad at all. Granted if there is an accident or emergency on the interstate, it will get backed up, but if you time it right it is smooth sailing.

As everyone knows, I LOVE Murfreesboro. I am originally fron New Jersey and moved to Nashville in 1994. I lived in Nashville and Antioch before moving to Murfreesboro in 2000. It has grown significantly since then, but I would never want to live anywhere else. The schools here are great as is the city.

My brother-in-law moved to Spring Hill two years ago and to be totally honest, I think it is one of the the most pretentious and snobby areas I know of. The homes are significantly more expensive and you can get the same home in Murfreesboro for much less money in a neighborhood that is equally as nice.

Best of luck to you!
